Had the bisque and lobster cakes, service was friendly and sat on outside tables. Bisque was luke warm, very tiny bit of lobster in it, a small serving for the price, and the cakes were bits of fried dough with a sprinkling of meat in them, not tasty and under cooked. Was very disappointing.

Awesome food, amazing turn around, fresh and tasty. Slightly away from center of Newport, easy to find parking, nice views onto the port. A+

There are two sections to this wonderful establishment. There is the l
Kitchen, a pace where you can purchase prepared meal. Then there is the fresh seafood market. Just step in pick out what you want from the just caught lobsters and crabs, take it home and prepare your own meal. We have used both sides. Just a note, the Lobster Shack is located on a commercial fishing pier so it is not fancy. The Kitchen, which is not always open, has a nice menu of lobster dishes. A 1 1/4 lb lobster with sides is $21.00. I ordered the lobster cakes and lobster bisque. My wife ordered lobster bites. The lobster bisque was wonderful, nice chunks of lobster in a nicely seasoned creamy base; it alone is worth a return visit. The lobster bites are succulent little pieces of lobster in a light batter deep fried and served with a spicy mayo. The lobster cakes were no so successful, they were not lobster cakes they were fritters with very little lobster meat. I would not order them again. The fresh seafood area offers a variety of lobster sizes, a couple of different crabs and conch. Prices are really reasonable. This place is worth a visit if you are looking for reasonably priced well cooked seafood in Newport.

My wife and I stayed at the Wyndam overlooking the harbor and decided to get takeout from the Lobster Shack one evening. In addition to the cost of the lobster, which didn't seem that great, they charged $3 for steaming it and $1 for a small cup of melted butter! The lobster bisque was good but also very expensive! For a "Shack" right on the harbor you might think it would be more reasonable but, then again, I guess they pull in the tourists like us.
