My boyfriend and I decided to head down to Newport for a much needed weekend getaway. We reserved this place on a whim Thursday for that Saturday night. We were pleasantly surprised upon arrival. Warm cookies and coffee welcomed us at the front desk as well as the friendly staff. We were given a room on the first floor which was much bigger than i anticipated. The location was perfect. All in all a great stay, will definitely be staying at other Lark Hotel locations!

A quick sum up: we had a great time, and we would love to return. We had a great time at the Gilded.

The decor is lively, whimsical, and great fun (online photos will give you a good idea), the bed was terrifically comfortable, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the food ranged from decent to delicious.

You're handed an iPad on arrival, which replaces the usual hotel binder--a great idea, and a nice way to let guests surf the web, listen to music, whatever.

Hats off, especially, to the friendly and warm staff.

Buffet breakfast was quite good: baked goods were delicious (something available all day), tea and coffee were both excellent, chai-spiced oatmeal (cold) was tasty, and many other choices were great, but the baked eggs were probably better when freshly baked; mine was cold and a tad bland--but I didn't see the sriracha sauce, which would have improved it.

It was a spur-of-the-moment decision to go visit the mansions and we needed a place to stay. After looking at Tripadvisor reviews we decided on Gilded, which luckily had a couple of rooms left. Although we initially booked the Petite Queen (which was the size of a typical European hotel room and totally fine) we decided to treat ourselves to an upgrade to the regular Queen, which had a little sitting room attached.

The decor is very cute, and the warm hospitality is what you would expect from a B and B. Coffee and cookies available at all times, and modern amenities (wifi, cable TV, iPhone dock) in the rooms. Our stay was quiet, even though I think the hotel was fully booked. Breakfast (included) was also tasty and nicely presented.

One thing, though, it was really cold in the room! The receptionist had promised to turn up the heat but - and maybe this is because the hotel is a historic home and we were on a higher floor - it stayed super cold. Had we stayed for longer than a night we would have followed up more than once but in the end, it was bearable.

We plan on a return trip and would love to stay here again, maybe checking out a different room just for a change.

What a lovely hotel! The Decor is absolutely amazing! This hotel stands out on the service side. The staff at check-in was wonderfully friendly which was a welcome surprise from my days at the Hilton for business travel. As we were leaving the front desk after checking in , the front desk staff told us that some warm chocolate chip cookies that they were cooking should be ready in a few minutes - and when we said that we had to leave she said that she would have some brought up to our room which she did with two glasses of milk! A great service experience!

The room was very comfortable and nicely appointed the location is central to most of Newport and is very convenient! They give you purple iPads that are preloaded with all the areas dining and tourist spots which was a very nice convenience! The breakfast was amazing as well as you can see from the pictures that I uploaded it was a very unique and delicious dining experience!

Overall we would highly recommend staying here! Wonderful staff and a great hotel experience

My wife and I saw a favorable review in the NY Times a couple of months ago and decided to check it out on our next visit to Newport which was last week.

I have to admit that on their website, gildedhotel.com, is a picture of a room with a pool table. I was not planning on spending much time playing pool, but as someone who enjoys playing occasionally, I found this a plus.

When we got there, however, the table was in a room not much wider than the table with two "short" cues because it wouldn't accommodate regular length cues. As I said, I wasn't planning on playing really, but this was a disappointment.

The bedroom was nice enough, as was the attached bathroom but the bathroom only had a very narrow shelf over the sink making it difficult to rest eye glasses, toothpaste, etc.

The bedroom contained one of my major pet peeves when it comes to hotel rooms, namely lack of decent reading light. As is typical, there was a side table on either side of the bed, with a light but if you wanted to read in bed, the light was lower than the book and didn't provide sufficient lighting.

On the plus side, the t.v. came with a combination of Netflix, HBOgo and perhaps other premium choices, You had to use your own login information but it was nice having that choice.

The breakfast was very nice but the tables are way too small, especially if you want to read a paper.

The young woman who greeted us and served breakfast (pretty sure the same one) was very attractive and very friendly.

The location is very convenient but I think we'll try somewhere else on our next visit to Newport.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay and providing this helpful feedback. Your concerns are noted, and we are working on addressing some of these during our winter spruce-up. As for the pool table, though, if you visit us again we encourage you to give it a go -- despite the room being on the smaller side, the table is completely functional and the atmosphere is really fun!
