1. No one carried our luggage in. 2. Charged for parking although I have handicapped placard. Told parking is for restaurant only. 3. When making reservation, told breakfast included. Not honored as I could not find confirmation which was supposed to be e-mailed. 4. Charged for some type of hotel privileges which I will not be able to use. 5. Room needs updating - beds uncomfortable, squeak when laying down, bathtub chipped and mold in caulking. 6. Floors above room must not have sound barrier as you hear people walking around even late at night. 7. Hear bathroom and water running from above room. Shall I go on..... Too tired from hearing noises from other rooms.

Room Tip: Choose wisely.

Enjoyed my stay at the Viking Hotel. Room was very comfy and quiet and all the facilities and food were of a good standard. It's well located as you can to walk down to the quay and is close to many decent cafes, restaurants and bars.

Comfortable traditional room in well groomed grounds, up the hill but close to town, surrounded by quaint shops. Had ground floor room overlooking carpark, would think a room on a higher floor might have more ambiance.

What a great location for Hotel Viking! Easy to walk to the Tennis Hall of Fame and the harbor area. It's located on the same road as most of the mansions/"cottages".
The entire staff that we encountered were extremely friendly. Didn't have a problem at all!

Room Tip: Our room was a bit small, however, we were only there to sleep and shower. Perfectly functional!

Had a recent stay at this property. The property is in the middle of old Newport, which is really nice. Narrow streets and old buildings surround this old structure.

The waterfront, with all of its attractions is an easy walk away.

The front desk was efficient and friendly. I was quickly given a room at the far end of the hotel. The room was nicely decorated and recently renovated. The bathroom was clean and in good shape, with a modern raised bowl type of sink and clean tile floors. The combo tub/shower was clean. I especially enjoyed the shower head, which was at about 7 feet.

I would note that the soap, shampoo and the like were in pump dispensers in both the shower and by the sink. No individual bars of soap or containers were provided. Some might find this annoying, but I’m OK with the arrangement.

Internet service was acceptable, but not fast. I measured a speed of about 2 megs down and about 4 megs up. The signal was a little iffy, but usable. The desk in the room had a multi-outlet module to give you enough outlets to use and the bedside had an open plug for your phone charger.

The TV was quite large and nicely set up for technology – one of the better set ups I’ve seen. The TV menu allowed you to select an external HDMI cable to attach your laptop or other HDMi enabled device. HDMI cable was attached so you didn’t have to fish around behind the TV to plug in. You also had an option within the TV menu to run Hulu, YouTube and some other services. The menu even tells a user that your sign in info is erased when you check out. Cool!

I would point out that this is an old hotel. So the woodwork outside of the rooms, while nicely painted, shows signs of wear and tear. Some doors, such as in the conference rooms, are rather worn in terms of dents and such in the wood. Perhaps they want to retain the vintage look?

There are a lot of stairs in this place, so some with walking issues might have some challenges, even when using the elevator(s).

The one thing that annoys me about this place is the additional fees. They charge a $16 resort fee, for the ‘free’ internet and miscellaneous stuff. This is bogus and is just an excuse to understate the true nightly cost of the room relative to other places. This is not a resort, just add the fee to the nightly rate!

Parking is also not included in the ‘resort fee’. Instead the cost is $35 a night ($15 night Nov 1 to Apr 1). I avoided this fee by parking on the street nearby. The catch is that many of the neighboring streets have restrictions on who can park there at night, requiring a resident sticker. I avoided this because resident stickers are only required from May 1 to October 1. Apparently there are some areas without this restriction nearby, but I didn’t see them.

I would consider staying here again if I return to Newport.

Thank you for your honest feedback and insights following your recent stay. While we are glad to have impressed you in several ways, we do regret if not every aspect of your visit lived up to your expectations. We truly want our guests to have the best possible experience with us and offer several hotel packages which include breakfast, parking, etc. We hope you will choose to return to The Hotel Viking.
