Was not able to go up to the summit. Very steep and a lot of steps to reach the top. Very nice stop on our journey around Oahu.

I'm from Melbourne....do this is what I'd call the 'kokoda track crossed with point neapean '. Its steep and has steps....yes there are steps....and then a beautiful bunker and scenic views. Totally worth it. Also do yourself a favour and get the ice shave at the end (lemon lime and watermelon my fave)...a deserving reward for this hike.

This is subjectively a mild-moderately strenuous hike from the crater of the extinct Diamond Head volcano to the lookout right above and to the east of Waikiki. I would schedule at least two hours.

It may perhaps be too difficult for children under 7 years of age, and less fit or older visitors. Oppressive heat and humidity in the summer may also make it too unpleasant. Make sure you bring sunscreen, a hat, water and appropriate footwear.

The popular trail and lookout can be very crowded.

Admission to the parking lot was $5 per private car and during busy hours, you may need to wait for more than 10 mins for a spot.

Otherwise, the fantastic 360 degree views of SE Oahu are well-worth the effort.

We recently visited Diamond Head State Monument while on our honeymoon. We took an Uber car to the visitors center. From there it is a moderate but exhilarating hike to the peak looking over the ocean straight ahead with Waikiki and Honolulu to the West. Along the path we saw mongoose darting back and forth across the path. There are beautiful flowers and vegetation in the crater too.
The climb can be slightly strenuous at times and there are steep parts as well as a long flight of stairs at the end near the top. It's all worth it when you step out of what was once a hardened gun placement built during WWII. There are panoramic view unlike anywhere else. The ocean below has reefs, the city view is nice and you can get a good sense of the whole volcanic crater too.
Admission is only $1 per person and $5 per car. Considering how expensive things are in Hawaii this was one of our favorite things we did and certainly the cheapest.
This is a can't miss part of any visit to Oahu. The crowds can be big but we didn't find that a problem.

Very crowded, but the view from the top is amazing! It’s a nice hike and I think every adult in medium form can do it. It cost something like 5$ for 2 people.
