Just returned from a 7 night all-inclusive stay and what a fabulous time we had!
We had a beach front club room which although not the largest of rooms available are still lovely and spacious with a huge and very comfortable 6ft x 6ft bed, great bathroom/shower facilities, virtually on the beach (a small grassy area between you and the beach), lovely and quite. Housekeeping was excellent and any little issues we encountered were resolved quickly.
All the staff from managers to garden staff plus the Mauritian people in general are the friendliest and most helpful people we have ever encountered on our holidays.
The Plantation Club breakfast was gastronomic to say the least and for us not manageable every day or we would not have fit in any of our clothes by the end of the holiday!
The Mercado buffet restaurant served a very good range of food, breakfast, lunch and evening and even if you’re a fussy eater you would not have too much trouble finding something to eat. Our only small criticism would be that the actual buffet food although wonderfully cooked was not always very hot.
On 2 evenings we ate at the Edgewater restaurant, the food was excellent but service slow, however as we were in no rush it was not really a problem.
Our evenings were spent in Bar Bleu, the staff were so friendly and attentive and did their utmost to make you feel special and ensure you had a lovely holiday and we would like to say thank you to all the staff but a special thank you goes to Sanjay, Jeffrey, Ivan’s and the beautiful little waitress who’s name we sadly don’t know. The day time snacks Pizza/pancakes and cocktails were very good although the sausages in the hot dogs are steamed so pale and not what we British are used too but still good. Evening entertainment was not brilliant but ok, not sure if it’s any better in other hotels on the island as this was our first visit to Mauritius and for us entertainment isn’t a priority.
Lovely beach, pools and gardens never felt crowded. Our only negative (and this is a personnel negative) we like snorkeling and because of the “Very” strong sea currents in that particular area snorkeling was challenging (to say the least!) and even swimming is difficult and wouldn’t be any good for children. Had we have known this we may have chosen a hotel further north having said that we most definitely would recommend this hotel if snorkeling isn’t your thing!
The hotel is quite isolated with only a couple of other hotels nearby so no evening stroll out really but for us not an issue.
We would recommend the Beach front club rooms and the “all inclusive” option if affordable!

Dear Valued Guest,

We are pleased that you enjoyed your recent vacation with us.

I have recognised the hosts you mention, in particular the Bar Bleu team, but have taken good note of your impressions on the entertainment which we will review and thank you for bringing this to your attention.

We are in the process of working with an NGO to install a snorkling trail so that guests can enjoy the 70 species of fish that reside just off our shore. As the only lagoon in Mauritius where coral bleaching has not occurred the marine life is diverse, but you do need a little experience we agree.

We hope that we have a chance to welcome you back and once again our thanks for sharing your vacation thoughts with us.

Kind regards,

Pieter van der Hoeven

I have never written a review about any of the wonderful hotels we have stayed in the past (Relais Chateaux, Constance, Shangri La, Ritz Carlton, The Oberoi etc.) since everything used to be fantastic but more or less as expected. For Outrigger I had to open a TripAdvisor account to due justice for all the pampering we were given and the highly friendly, professional and costumer oriented behavior of the staff. Simply outstanding and never experienced in any way before.
We are leaving Outrigger today after 2 unforgettable weeks in the Beach Villa which is right next to the beach with breathtaking view of the Indian Ocean and sunset. The beach villa offers connected kids rooms and has 6 bed rooms in total, hence also very convenient for bigger families. We stayed with our 3 kids (1, 4, 7) which also had a blast at the Coral Kids Club while doing trips with the glass bottom boat, baking pizza, doing Henna tattoos etc.
Staying at the Beach Villa you're entitled to enjoy the breakfast at the à la carte restaurant The Plantation Club which is like an oasis itself. The staff is amazingly friendly (thanks Harshita for the wonderful ginger tea's!) and the dishes in the evening is a Gault Millau experience right in front of your door.
But not just the Plantation Club also the Edgewater restaurant and the buffet restaurant offer a food level which is way above expected.
We especially would like to thank the incredible chef Geert-Jan who has made us feel very special and spoilt us with his incredible dishes and extraordinary food ideas. You're awesome!
Also the birthday surprise with clown and cake and the special setting at the beach was outstanding!

There isn't enough space to mention all the wonderful staff here whom everyone is going the extra mile for you. A staff which is genuinely friendly but highly professionally led by General Manager Pieter and Resort Manager François who put enormous effort in leading and guiding their staff towards perfection by being an important role model. As we have been told by many employers, the management has established a very special working atmosphere which is hard to find in any other resorts. The guest truly feel this with every contact they have with the staff and that's - apart from the beautiful hotel and the outstanding food - also makes a different to just any other 5 star hotel.

Thank you Pieter, François and Geert and all the staff from the bottom of our hearts. We have never felt so much at home in an hotel like we did at Outrigger!

Room Tip: The lounge rooms or beach villa offers you free access to the Plantation Club.

and what not.with daily breakfast dinner included.

Cleanliness 9/10.

The garden and lush green lawn is beautiful and well maintained 9/10

Wow for spacious bedroom cum living room with 5 star amenities.

Food..............6/10(this is the dept needs to improvise a lot.

Suggestions:1.Swimming pool....The bottom tiles need to be changed with blue
ceramics.
2.For Indians a jet fitted to commodes in toilets is a must.
3.To make Indian dishes tasty,no repeat menus, variety with use of
Indian Masala a must,Roti nan paratha are all alike.
4.An escalator or a capsule lift option for climbing long staircase to
reception.

I hope still a better experience for my son and daughter when they visit Outrigger.
If facilities like parasailing be added on beach along with few other water-sports,island trip and north Mauritius trips can be skipped.

I was never home sick but got upset to see off the resort on day of departure.
Such was the magic and lure of resort.A paradise on earth.

Thank you outrigger.

We have just returned from a 9-day all - inclusive stay at Outrigger. This was our first experience of a resort based holiday as we normally prefer more active, touring holidays and we booked very last minute. After a busy year we needed a complete rest and this is just what we got! Our biggest dilemma each day was deciding which cocktail to try next or which restaurant to go to for dinner! Our room was spacious and the bathroom was huge. The resort is well maintained and is in a wonderful location right on the beach. The food was well prepared, beautifully presented and plentiful with a choice of 3 or 4 restaurants offering a la carte or buffet style dining. What really made the holiday was the friendliness of the staff who, without exception, were always smiling and willing to do whatever they could to help. Service was not always as slick as in some 5-star hotels but the charm of local culture and attitudes was part of the appeal. On my wife's birthday a cake and champagne was presented to her and the entertainment band were organised to sing Happy Birthday to her - an extra touch to make the day even more special. Short snorkelling trips and glass bottom boat trips were available each day free of charge as were kayaks, pedallos and paddle boards. We hired a car for a day to explore a little of the island and also took a day long boat trip to see dolphins and go snorkelling, all of which can be arranged through agents at the hotel. Our only regret was that we had to return home so soon and that we now need to diet to lose the weight we put on while there!!

Room Tip: While all room have a sea view some are obscured by palm trees. The ocean view suites are right on the sea but are more expensive.
