We stayed in the Heritage 2 weeks from middle of May onwards, unfortunately the weather wasn’t as good as we hoped but this is out of our hands.
The Hotel with its staff was very welcoming, helpful and always tried their best to make you feel at ease. We were on the Premium package which included daily spa treatments which we took advantage from and need to say going from a 20 minutes treatment to a higher value one for 40 minutes you only had to pay 500 Rupees which was very good value.
The rooms were wonderful big, the bathroom as described many times before a women’s dream, also our house keeper folded our cloth and made the room sparkle every day.
I really don’t understand the complaints about a damp room as I only heard the best things from all holiday makers we meat.
We used our vouchers for the Seven colours Spa Restaurant and I wasn’t very impressed with it as unfortunately the meal from my partner was much nicer than mine. But I have to say we went to the Chateau in the afternoon to see the house in full view and it was wonderful we had a drink there and decided we have to come back for an evening dinner as the atmosphere was great. And it was worthwhile as my partner proposed to me at our evening meal which was by the way beautiful cooked scallops and great beef with truffle sauce. It was that magic that we went a second time and to our surprise there was a jazz band playing in the garden before the water fountain really magic.
Kuoni was out our operator and the outsourced every trip to White Sands which we used to visit Port Louis and Pampelmousse Botanic Garden, honestly we could have done this trip on our own the lady which took us around was the first face I have meat in Mauritius which was really bored with what she was doing. After this we went on trips on our own Crocodile farm (really worth a visit seeing the turtles there made my day) We then booked a taxi to see Charmel (sands in different colours) ended up seeing the hole island with our taxi driver which was excellent knew so much about growing tea, culture, all volcano’s etc. well we had a lovely day with him and meat lots of people doing the same as we did taking a taxi driver and getting a tour much cheaper, more personalised and complete individual.
Great hotel, great service, great food, lovely staff, wonderful garden but wouldn’t go back there in May.

My wife and I returned only yesterday from the Heritage.

We stayed for 14 nights on the premium package in a beachfront Room, it was on the second floor and had a fantastic view.

We were travelling back to Mauritius after 6 years, we had previously stayed at La Pirogue for our honeymoon and we decided to spend our 6th wedding anniversary at the Heritage.

We flew with Virgin direct from Heathrow and the flight was fantastic, I would strongly reccommend the upper class upgrade it budget permits as this added to the relaxing nature of the overall holiday.

A key point to raise early on is is that the period from May to September is Winter in mauritius and therefore the climate at this time can be very erratic.

I only mention this as some of the honeymooners we came across had clearly not realised this and were a little disappointed with the weather that Mauritius was sufferig in that period.

That said we still had a fantastically relaxing 14 days and returned with a good tan.

The mauritian people in general are some of the nicest you will meet in the world and this leads to great service, i believe this not only true of the Heritage but the majority of the hotels on the island.

We arrived at the Heritage in just under an hour from the airport to the much talked about drum beat.

We were checked in whilst sipping a refreshing drink and then escorted to our room( the whole process was just over 10 minutes).

The room itself is sepctacular and i would reccommend the Beachfront room, for the location. all rooms (with the exception of the junior suites and the villa) have the same layout and facilities and therefore you are only paying for location, but as I say this room is right on the beach with direct ocean views.

The rooms have large walk in shower, his and hers sinks and plenty of storage.

After being in the resort for just over 3 hours it was time for our consultation at the spa (this was rather fun and they question you in line with the seven chakras. depending on your answres they develop a spa ritual over 12 days to match you individually.

The whole inclusive spa concept was a high point for my wife but initially I was not that bothered, however I have to say after 12 wonderful treatments I am now a true spa convert, it made a relaxing change to every day and every treatment was delivered to a very high standard.

The food and drink in the resort is some of the best we have eaten, and from reading previous reviews prior to departure I am puzzled as to why people have felt the need to have negative comments.

I have been lucky enough to have eaten in some very fine restaurants and the food on resort gave me no complaints whatsoever.

I think the individuals who have thought they suffered from food poisioning were very very unlucky or were just suffering from over indulgence.

All restaurants offer a high standard with the buffet and infinity blue being used for lunch and dinner but the Chateau and Compangies de comptoirs were just fantastic ( we dined in ech once) and had very enjoyable evenings.

The drinks on resort are plentiful in both choice and alcohol content.

I will touch on what is included in the premium package shortly but rest assured there as a very good choice of spirits, wines, cocktails and french champagne.

The staff are very attentive and will go out of their way to provide you with what you need.

To cover off the issue of HB or All inclusive:

As stated we opted for the premium package (AI) and found this to both suit our needs and also give us in our opinion very good value for money.

On avg the premium pacjakge will cost you £100 per person per day extra, but this is what you get:

Breakfast , Lunch and Dinner.

Lunch can be taken on the beach at infinity blue or Amafrooty.

Dinner can be taken in the buffet or at Infinity Blue every night and you also get one dinner at the chateau and their spa restaurant included, the drinks are not included at the chateau.

All drinks are included with the exception of whiskies and premium drinks older than 12 years.

Over 15 wines are included and they are generally all very drinkable.

One spa treatment per person per day is included and these range from 20 - 40 minute sessions.

All golf fees are included ( club hire is payable if you do not take your own)

All sporting facilites are included as is one scuba dive per day if you are PADI certified.

The mini bar and room service are not included (which is a little strange).

In my opinion if you plan not o take part in the golf or the spa and yu do not want lunch and do not drink thatmuch then half borad is probably for you, if you do however not want to feel tied or hold back the the premium package is the way forward.

As mentioned in othe posts the trip on the red and white speed boat is a must.

Paulo is the owner of the boat but the two guys Stefan and Alex who take you out are very nice guys and make sure you really enjoy the day.

We opted to take the whole day trip and hire the boat for just the two of us.

We departed the beach at the Heritage at just after 8 and returned just after 4.

We saw well over 100 spinner and bottlenose dolphins.

Snorkeled twice, caught a squid and had lunch on a deserted coconut island.

all food and drink was included as was the snorkel equipment.

The waters are very clear and the boat is very comfortable.

As staed overall we had an absolutely fantastic holiday and met some very nice people and staff.

We will definately return to the Heritage and I strongly reccommend this hotel.

Every body is entitled to their opinions and it is always good to get a cross section of opinions, however I could not fault this place and if you have booked here you will not be dissappointed.

Spent 7 days at the Herritage in May 2008.
Had a great experience.
Rooms where good standaard. inpossible te have complaints about the cleanness because housekeping is around 3 times a day !
Service in the restaurants is good, never had to wait to be seated, somtimes drinks where a bit slow, but noT anoying at all.
The food at fine dine resaurants is great, asspecialy Le Chateau, great ambiance there very romantic place (def check it out)
Whent there twice, great way to spend your last nigt.

A lot has been said about AI or not. The first question you have to ask yourself what is te extra cost of going AI. In our case it was aprox 900 euro pp for 7 nights. We went half board, ate in the fine dine restaurants 3x, had 5 spa treatments both, cocktails, wine, juices and and lunches every day and did 1 dive and stil where aprox 200 euro pp cheaper than AI at the end of the week.

p.s the hotel in not cheap but this is wat you pay for in a 5 star resort.

In my opinion the only way to break even on the AI is to stay at the hotel al day, drink lots of champain, go fore a spa tereatment daily and make daily diveS. In any outher case go HB.

The only real rip of is the interne wich wil cost you aprox 15 euro/ hour.

Golf was great to. They clean your bag and shoes every day !

Overall great hotel. Read some very bad reviews but having been there myself must say theat these people must be very fussy and is some cases not very objective.

Enjoy and have great fun.

We arrived into Mauritus after 4 nights in Dubai for a 10 night stay at the Heritage. As soon as we arrived we were greeted with home made lemon/herbal drink to revive us after our long journey. The staff welcomed us and checked us in. We were then shown to our groundfloor seaview room. The musty smell as soon as we entered the room was absolutely disgusting, musty and damp. We looked out to the balcony, the view was.......... garden view which consisted of grass and some trees. the sea was behind the trees but you could not see it!! The cleanliness was also very disappointing, it seemed the room had not been used in a while and the standard of cleanliness was unacceptable, espec for what was supposed to be a 5 star hotel. My husband lay down on the bed in total disappointment, we were contemplating what to do.......... and suddenly he complained of a pungent smell. He stood up and the damp must smell from the bed clothes had penetrated onto his clothes............ Initially we went to meet our hotel rep who offered us another room, apologising for what had happened. He got keys for the room immediately above ours. My husband went to inspect it with the rep and it was absolutely no different at all. We were totally gutted and disappointed after the absolutely marvellous first 4 nights of our honeymoon in Dubai at the Mina a Salam. All we wanted to do was get out of there. The rep tried contacting other hotels within their portfolio for availability. We were in touch with our travel agent directly get them onto the case. The hotel manager expressed his sincere apologies for our bad experience and tried to encourage us to stay but with no joy. Due to the time delay we lost the guts of a day trying to get transferred but we didnt care because we got moved to Legends. The whole atmosphere, standard and cleanliness and standard of food was excellent, absolutely no comparison to the heritage disaster. I would never go to this place nor recommend it ever. It is not luxurious by any means..................... i have given you my advice but its up to you if you take it

We got married in this hotel and everything was fantastic, six of us travelled out for two weeks and we enjoyed every minute of it. The hotel is on the quieter south coast of Mauritius and is by far the most unspoilt scenic part of the island.
The rooms were a really good size, I especially liked the double sinks and separate bath and shower. Our balcony looked out to a partial sea view and overlooked the very well maintained gardens, there are gardeners out constantly. The staff are very friendly and can not do enough for you although there are the odd few who look like they'd rather be somewhere else! Special mention to Nadine, our wedding co-ordinator, the hairdresser (sorry I've forgotten her name) and Steeve, the entertainment manager who were superb.

We decided to have our wedding at 4pm in the pagoda in the gardens, it was beautiful, if not very hot when my husband to be was in full Scottish kilt and jacket and I had a fairly heavy and full dress on! After the photos were taken by Krishna, the professional photographer, who we were very pleased with, we went down to the beach to have drinks before our meal. The meal was for the six of us in the beach kiosk which was decorated with flowers and special personalised menus printed, again absolutely lovely - the food was to die for.
We booked the Sega dancers to perform on the beach for us who were absolutely amazing, there was a huge bonfire and about 10 or 12 dancers and band members playing traditional Mauritian music and really energetic dancing which we all got up and had a go, we had very sore calf and thigh muscles after joining in in the sand! I can honestly say the day went perfectly.

Like most other visitors we also went on the red and white speedboat for the day and it's definately worth the money. Dillan and Alex showed us bottlenose and spinner dolphins, then we went snorkelling in the most fantastic clear bay and saw so many different types of fish. We then went to Coconut island where they cooked us a brilliant bbq meal with chicken, fish, sausages and two lobsters. You can also drink as much rum as you like!

We were on the premium package which seemed to vary in what was included depending on what company you booked your holiday through. I would definately recommend going Premium as it is extortionately expensive otherwise.
We took advantage of the jeep safari through the nearby nature reserve which was really enjoyable and also the glass bottomed boat which was ok but there was not much to see.

The spa treatments are also really good although try to get them booked for first thing or last thing in the day as they can eat into your subathing time. Most treatments lasted 20 mins with a few lasting 40 mins.

My husband plays golf and took advantage of the free green fees 5 times. He said the course was pretty good and was pretty glad he'd taken his clubs with him.

The food in the hotel was good, the buffet restuarant had a different theme each night. The fine dining was really lovely too, we used both our complimentary vouchers here instead of going to the Chateau as we had heard a few bad reports about it, as well as the fact you have to pay for drinks there too.

One of our party had severe stomach and toilet troubles for 4 days with several trips to the resident doctor which wasn't very nice but you can never tell what is to blame for these kind of things. It certainly wasn't due to lack of hotel cleanliness.

Overall we had a fantastic time and would love to go back one day.
