Our party of four recently stayed at the Ban Sabai Hotel and had dinner
at their "River Spirit" Restaurant.
This restaurant is basically an al fresco restaurant though a section above
the kitchen is covered. This makes this section look like a tower ! Pls see attached
picture.
As it was past 8 pm when we had our dinner, the restaurant terrace is pitch-dark, save
for an island with a large tree which is strung up with bright lights. See attached pictures.
All tables had candles but with a brisk breeze it is a challenge to read the menu and
see what you are eating. True this may be romantic what with the twinkling lights of nearby hotels
and lights on the river.
Two persons in our party had the fillet of fish steamed with herbs & coconut cream, tasty but we found it the fish mushy in texture.
My wife had the deep fried fish with garlic, a whole river fish, fried very crispy. This was a well executed and tasty dish.
We voted this the best dish.
I had the BBQ pork ribs. Good succulent fall-off-the bones pork. Nicely marinaded with a
well-balanced sauce.
Service was fairly prompt as it is only a 13-villa resort. Wait staff are pleasant & friendly.
Hotel guests get a 10% discount.
We also had breakfast the next morning and one sees that place is rundown, the brick-paved
floor is uneven, old furniture, the previous night's beer bottles and beer crates are still not cleared.
The breakfast consist of choice of main dish with a generous baguette with butter & jam.
For fruits,juice and coffee/tea, it is self-service.
Our rating for this restaurant : 6 out of 10 points.
