The hotel signboard is white saying Restaurant Bar Tapas and in small writing to one side are the words Le Roy Soleil, so we missed it first time. Arriving in winter in the dark you would easily pass this narrow driveway. It is not in Menerbes which is a 6 minute drive uphill. Our hosts were welcoming but the Reception is frequently unmanned and there is no bell to summon someone - you have to wander into the kitchen at the far end of the garden to raise someone if you want your room key or to check in. Our room was nice but our bathroom was cramped, despite 2 basins. the bidet was in the middle of the room. And the "shower" was a hand held one with no hook to hang it from, and no screen so water went everywhere. Our other gripe is the limited menu, offering 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts. The food was delicious but the portions were on the small size. But the following night it was the same menu with only 2 variations. So we ate out on other nights in nearby Menerbes. The main reason for our visit was to see the lavender at its best. The main lavender area turns out to be 1.5 hours drive east on the Plateau de Valensole. So do not imagine gazing out of your bedroom window at endless vistas of lavender - the area is hilly and wooded with only 2 small local fields of lavender.

Stayed here as part of a group hiking trip. Staff was very helpful. Spacious room with its own patio, nice pool area—- had one meal at night, which featured local fresh foods— great stay off the beaten path so very quiet!

I'm also very surprised by the bad reviews here. We had a wonderful stay at that hotel. I don't know what expectations the other reviewers had, but for that price, the hotel and its service were more than good enough. We also stayed in many 5 Stars hotels before, but it was much more expensive as well. And the service quality wasn't so much better than at this one. The room was large, nice and clean. The bathroom seemed to be renovated recently, it looked very modern and new. The private terrasse in front of our room was magnificent, and the garden and pool area looked great too. There are plenty of free parking spaces in front of the hotel. The staff was very friendly. The lady at the check-in counter did not speak English, we arrived quite late, but we had no problems communicating with hand signs. And when we checked out, an English speaking gentleman helped us out with a lot of tips for our tour. Only the Wifi situation was not perfect. You had to obtain a password for each device. Overall, they might not be super professional and organized like in bigger 5 Star hotels, but you can feel that they are trying their best to make your stay comfortable, which was for us more than enough. Unfortunately, we only stayed for one night, I would definitely come back.

Management of booking and final bill much to be desired-wrong room to start with and a charge for breakfasts which was never taken by us. Dominic arranged a room on the ground floor thankfully.
Service by waiting staff was very good and Dominic (Man Friday) and Justine were very welcoming and helpful.
Room-Large and décor was Shabby Chic and looking a little too shabby in need of a facelift ie wardrobe doors did not slide very well scary as came off the runners.
Menu in the restaurant was very limited re choices and it was the same every day if you were staying for week it was boring and the food lacked flavour. The menu only changes every 3 weeks.
The Pool - Health and safety issues with the steps no handrails in place and the surrounding ground area was in need of repair.
Location- Very peaceful and calm but too far from the village of Menuerbes a taxi cost us 30eros.

Room Tip: Ground floor have easy access to poolr. It would be a lovely place if it had good management from the DIRECTORS.

PROS:

We stayed last week, Thursday 31st August, for one night. We were moving on the next day to a wedding venue for a family member.

Our suite was nice, I stayed with elderly parents, and we had a mezzanine room, with balcony and nice bathroom. The beds however were not comfortable at all.

We had lunch in the restaurant, we were the only 4 there, and it was really nice, but expensive.

CONS:
The continental breakfast was dreadful and cost €19 EACH. Coffee was awful, and we had to ask for milk for the cereal as nothing was there. Very unorganised.

We had to get a taxi from there to Menerbes on 31st Aug and used a local taxi driver who charged us €60 for a 7 min trip (2 goes as there were 5 of us), and collected us at 11:30pm. Absolutely disgusting. We were provided with his name by the receptionist so do not take his card from her.

Room Tip: Don't stay here, go to La Bastide de Marie 10 mins down the road, a 1,000 times nicer
