My sister , cousin and i stayed here for the second year running and will do so again . The rooms are lovely , clean and modern . on the whole the hotel has alot to offer ! if you don't want to go far , you don't have to ! The bar offers a night of entertainment . As long as you respect the hotel and staff , you will have a fab time here , like us ! The staff and management are more than happy to help , if ever you need it . i cannot wait to go back !

We booked back in January at a local travel agents, so afterwards I was eager to read up on this hotel, though I was immediately in regret and put off quite a lot by the negative posts and attitudes towards the grounds and people of Hermes in Malia... Having returned home last night, I can't stress enough for you not to let any negative response turn you away from a great little hotel. It's situated around a 5-minute walk away from the strip, and there's loads of lovely shops and little restaurants in the area around Hermes.

The rooms are pretty basic but of a decent size for accommodating the amount of people in which they're supposed to (we had 2x 2 man rooms and 1x 3 man). Some plugs in the rooms were a bit broken but there was ways around this if you needed to use a charger/hair-dryer etc. The rooms have a small kitchen with appliances such as a kettle which is great if you need this at all. The views as well are absolutely stunning; we were really blown away with just spending hours looking out to the Crete mountains from the poolside and at our balcony.

We had read a few reviews about the manager Anna and how 'horrible' she is but that's really not the case - when you take into consideration running a hotel full of people aged 18-30 you can't blame her for her initial stern attitude, so alls I can say is treat her and her hotel with the same respect you'd treat anyone else and you'll have no issues. Also, if you bring anyone back to the room it's a €20 fine which is fair (not €50 as we had read!) and there wasn't any other fines to speak of other than breaking furniture. We lost a safe key and this was a €15 fine to replace but luckily managed to later find this as well. The use of in-room air conditioning and a safe cost €60 but I'll go into the air conditoning a bit more further down the review...

The pool is great, really big and very very deep, plus there's loads of sun loungers to choose from and wasn't ever too full whilst we were there. By the pool is a great little bar which we spent a lot of our time at throughout the day and before hitting the strip... In the daytime is a lovely, lovely woman named Ritsa who takes care of all of her guests and she really made us feel at home, she's constantly in conversation with everyone around the bar and lets you make song requests, nothing is a bother for her - I can't stress enough what a joy it was to have her looking after all of us during our stay. Of a night is Chris who is also a decent guy, though we ran into his bad side on a number of occasions due to his attitude at times, there was also a couple of arguments between our friends and him at times due to his rudeness... Nevertheless, but the moral around the hotel is how anyone should be at all times really; treat everyone with the same respect you'd expect and you won't have any issues. I would say though that Ritsa could do with another pair of hands down at the pool of a daytime as it gets very very busy and she's ran off her feet a lot of the time, though at night they sometimes had an extra person alongside Chris. By the pool/bar is also loads of seating areas, as well as couches inside, pool tables, TV and computers.

The friends that I went with had been to Zante the year before and had complained about not being allowed to bring their own food/drink into the room, so it was a massive relief for us to be able to nip to the shops and grab a few essentials. The food down by the pool is pretty decent, though we only ever tended to order breakfasts from there and at €3.50 it was decent value, apart from the toast not being very toasty i.e. having no toast colour to it at all! There's plenty of options for drinks as well with soft drinks, lagers, spirits and a whole host of cocktails.

The only other downsides I would list would be that the shower is very awkward in that it has no overhead latch to attach to, plus it's extremely powerful so if you do put it down to wash yourself it'll start flying everywhere! The shower's drain is very very slow so the bathroom will mildly flood if you're too long in there, though there's an additional drain on the floor. There was also occasions in which our room hadn't been cleaned so we didn't have clean towels/sheets, and for a few days we didn't have any toilet roll so we were using the toilets at reception... A few of us (and friends we made in the hotel) lost our voices and had quite chesty coughs, we have some reason to believe this may've been because of the air conditioning in rooms, but again this is not definite.

We were part of Club 18-30 so had two reps in Kay and Andy who were both sound, Kay met us upon arrival and tried to sell us the wristbands which we were expecting, though the lads who went away last weren't too keen on these bands; We asked if we could take the week's timetable and then make our minds up ourselves which was fine with her (we didn't buy these in the end)... On the third day we were really hungover from the night before and had a note of urgency for Andy to see us all in our main room at 1:30, so we were all questioning what had happened as we were in the full knowledge that none of us had done anything wrong. So, Andy arrives and begins this story that one of us had broken a Greek Vase and that sort of blame is something none of us needed after just waking up from a heavy night... Anyways turns out it's all one big mess around and that he's really there to sell us this UK afterparty in November as we were one of his favourite ever groups that he wants to bring and they only invite the best - obviously they had told this to every group we spoke to, I don't know who they think we are if they can honestly try and blag that to everyone. Andy asked for just 10-15 minutes of our time, then about 50 minutes later he finishes his pitch and by that point none of us are interests but he simply will not take no for an answer unless some of us put down ticket deposits, and it was only until we finally got it to him that we're not interested and we won't be going, to which he then got really snotty and stropped out of the room. We were all feeling pretty harassed and annoyed that he wouldn't take our answer, but at the same time this made for good conversation speaking to everyone else around the hotel who got the same lecture! Aside from that Afterparty malarkey, they were both great people and always lovely to talk to in and around hotel.

In conclusion, you'll get what you pay for with this hotel and its facilities, just treat the staff and grounds with respect then you'll run into no issues. If we were to return to Malia we would be more than happy to return to Hermes Hotel.

Stayed here with 6 other lads, we all absolutely loved the Hermes and Malia in general.
I was a little unsure after reading some of the reviews for the hotel, but after the week I've just had I urge everyone staying here in the future to ignore them!
The bar staff are amazing. Rita, Chris and Vagelis were always so friendly and we always felt welcome. Anna is lovely too! As long as you're not rude and you respect her she will help you with anything.
On to the reps Andy & Kay, I can honestly say they are 2 of the nicest people I've ever met. We all felt like we'd known them both for years and they really went above and beyond to make sure we had the best time possible! Without them the holiday wouldn't have been half as good. We all bought the events package which is well worth what you pay for, it helped us all save money because our week was sorted and we didn't have to pay the entry prices into the clubs.
Can't thank everyone at the Hermes enough I'll definitely be returning next year, Andy & Kay I can't wait to see you both in November!! X
