Just got back today from this hotel where we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Having read some reviews prior to our departure we were wary of "the hill" and problems with the air conditioning, and desperately tried to change my hotel, however it wasnt possible to change and now that i have been i am glad that it wasn't possible !!
The hotel is on a hill but they have shuttle buses running around site every few minutes so it really wasn't a problem. We stayed in block 9 which was half way up the hill and we found the hill a good bit of exercise after chilling out through the day.
The staff were really friendly in the bars and restaurants and the service was second to none.
The Italian restaurant was particularly nice, we visted 3 times during our stay - watch out for the special coffees that was definately worth taking your cam corder to film ! The tenderloin just melted in your mouth and the staff in here were very attentive.
The pool and beach area has many sunbeds so there is never a shortage.
The beach club (short boat ride away) is a must, the captain of the boat that takes you over there (Albert) was lovely and always willing to help you.
There are many varied trips to book, something for everyone, we only did 2 as we went deep sea fishing most days which was just amazing ! My husband caught a 80lb Rooster fish just off the beach and i caught many more too !
I would definately recomend a visit to Costa Rica before it gets spoiled and i wouldn't hesitate to visit this hotel again.
Yes there is rain, but hey its the tropics and the rain is warm and it beats being at work !!!
All in all a great holiday where we met some lovely people.

Grabed this holiday at the last minute through First Choice and we were very happy we did.
The Holiday stated with a bang from the minute we arrived as the aircraft was struck by lightning upon landing!!.
Flight was very good and passed quickly with staff being attentive and friendly.
Airport was very small and made us smile as there are no windows in the place and only a dozen or so people working there, but got us on our way better than some uk airports.
Coaches wre waiting and took us to the Hotel where we were booked in and went to our room, the luggage was brought to us a short time later by the friendly staff.
We were in block 7 and the room was clean with two double beds, wardrobe, bath shower, drawers, coffee, ceiling fan and air con etc, ( a touch cramped for four of us but ok, as you only sleep in it at the end of the day)
Hotel is laid out over a series of hills which lead down to the pool, dining areas and bar areas with the lobby being at the top.
Don't worry as there are plenty of little shuttle cars which run around the complex every few minutes to take you where to wish to go.
Food was good, plenty of it and the staff could not be more helpful, always smiling and very attentive.
Pool was great, plenty of sun beds although sun bed resevations by putting towels on them has already begun to creep in which is annoying as we saw two people put towels on two sun beds then go on a half day trip ( how stupid is that!! )
Booking trips is a MUST, don't go to this beautiful place and spend it round the pool, see Costa Rica and all it has to offer, over the whole week we only had one day where we were round the pool, tiring, yes, boring holiday NO, the boys loved it and won't forget this one in a hurry and that's what it's all about at the end of the day.
I have read people complaning that it rained, yes it rained but if you go at this time of year you must accept this as part of the holiday, after all RAIN FOREST and WET SEASON give you a good clue as to the conditions.
You don't book a holiday to this part of the world , at this cost without doing some homework first !!.
In the morning the sun comes out till about 2/3 o'clock and beware it's hot and you will get roasted, then the clouds come and it's time to head to the bar and use the all inclusive bit of the holiday.
All in all a great time, we saw all types of willife, went horseriding in the jungle, went to a live volcano, jeep safari in the jungle, jungle rivertrip, hot pools with hot mud, deep sea fishing and saw dolphins in the wild, went to totally unspolit beaches, now that's what a call a good time.
Best advise, if your going in the wet season take a light waterproof jacket, accept the people and the place for what it is and what it has to offer and most important keep an open mind and enjoy yourself.

We LOVED this resort!

The only problem incurred by our group of 30 was a non working air conditioning unit and the problem was fixed right away.

Some of the reviews I have read complained about having to walk to your room. This is true-- the resort is on a mountainside but the hotel has transportation that comes around every five to ten minutes. If you aren't physically able to hike steep hills then maybe you should find a different country to visit.

The entire resort was very clean and the staff was extremely friendly.

There are companies there (Swiss Travel) that arrange your day tours. These guys are not very organized and are not consistent with their prices! Beware!

I reccommend doing the ATV tour and canopy tour. You can also take a jet ski tour right from the resort and it is well worth every penny spent! I have never jet skiied in such a beautiful environment!

The food is not wonderful but they do have a wide variety to choose from.

I would highly reccommend this hotel!

Just got back today from my honeymoon spending 2 weeks at this hotel,we booked with First Choice and the flight was nice and comfortable inbound and outbound, airport very basic like a hanger, but it did the job!!!

Food-Was so so on some nights, each night was a theme night at he buffet restaurant, but be warned the food is always served luke warm-cold very bad in this case, food aleays nicely presented though, not alot of choice though. Some themed nights better than others, this hotel only caterers for Costan Ricans and Americans, needs to caterer for all tastes and nationalities who stay at this hotel. So be warned !!!!!!

Hotel-Friendly and lovely staff, hotel very clean and well run,i was in block 1 overlooking the bay, wonderful view.Hotel very very remote with very little to do on sight, yes you can book trips, but some people are on a budget and spending £100 ish each is a fortune.Hotel has 2 very small shops seling nic naks, but no magazines, lilos, etc. This hotel ok for couples but is boring on the 2nd week, you are too isolated from the outside world.Pool is very nice with a swim up bar, only prob is that were loads of wasps there which is off putting.DO NOT BRING YOUNG CHILDREN HERE there is VERY little do here for them,i was amazed seeing dozens and dozens of them there, very little entertainment, expensive holiday so DONT TAKE YOUNG CHILDREN!!!!

In all an ok honeymoon, the food lets this hotel down,it also needs better entertainment, more facilities. Also rained EVERDAY,2 thunderstorms, told on arrival it was the rainy season!!!! grrrrrrrr i thought,on the dot at 3pm ish it poured down.Became depressing after a while, stuck in isolation whilst it rained. If you want to relax than this is the hotel for you,if u want to lose weight also this is good for you after the cold presented food!!!!!

Myself (aged 15), my mum, my dad and my 14 year old sister stayed in the allegro between 16th and 30th of July.
This hotel was excellent value for money.
We travelled with First Choice. The flight is very long so we chose to upgrade to the premium cabin, well worth the extra money (even if it's just to skip the long queue at Gatwick!!)

Once we arrived in Costa Rica the transfer was very quick and efficient. We were given our hotel rooms and keys on the coach so we didn't have to check in once we arrived at the hotel. We had uprgaded the room to an ocean view so, we had rooms in building one. Wow what a view! Again well worth it.
Being in building one did mean we were at the top of the hill, but it was an easy walk down and we often got the bus back up. On the plus side it was very quiet, away from the noise of the pool/restaurants and close to the lobby and the bar there. Again fantastic view from the lobby bar, it is also probably the quieter bar.

The pool is huge, and was great for me and my sister. We played volleyball and water polo nearly everyday. There was always plenty of sunbeds, we never had trouble finding some.
We found that playing these sports helped us make lots of friends and by the end of the holiday there was a big group of teenagers who we would play with during the day and hang out with after dinner. We were all very sad to leave and still keep in contact. The resort is very safe, (mainly because theres no-where to go!!) and we went to the bar and to the disco every night with our friends and had no problems.

The Funclub there was always doing some sort of activity, they didn't bug you to join in if you didn't want to, they were very friendly and always joined in and had lots of fun too. Every night they put on a show, if you like that sort of thing. We didn't bother with them.

The beach was volcanic black sand, but it was very soft. Not many people went to the beach during the day so it was quieter than the pool. The sea was very calm and great for swimming in.
The beach club was definitely worth the trouble, the yellow sand beach was lovely, there were lots of sunbeds and hammocks to relax in. You could take kayaks out, they provided snorkelling equipment and floats. The food at the beach club isnt great, just hot dogs, pizza etc, but the staff were friendly and would bring you drinks on the beach. We didn't have any trouble booking the boat to the beach club.

The food in the buffet was quite good, they had themed nights, italian, costa rican etc. The breakfasts were really good, plenty of choice and plenty of coffee, lunch was ok, it did get a bit samey, dinner was good.
Some people said there were problems with flies on the food, we didn't have a problem with this, the fruit was covered in a glass cabinet and all of the other food was covered too. Yes there were flies (and birds) around, but no different from any other hot country, and you are kinda in the jungle!!!
The A la carte restaurants were excellent. The italian and the mexican both had very good menu, service and were air coned. We didn't have trouble booking, as long as you book early the day before. We always tipped and it was appreciated.
The bars were good, the barmen were friendly and helpful. There was a good cocktail list and would make anything without alcohol if you asked. The main bar closed at 11 and then the disco bar opened. The disco wasn't great but we had some fun there. It really is what you make it.

The weather was generally very good, we did have a few rainy afternoons but nothing that stopped us. The mornings were always warm and sunny but it did sometimes get cloudy in the afternoons, however it was still hot. It was quite humid but it didn't bug us. While we were there we had one storm, in the evening, which was amazing to watch from our balcony.

The room, yes it was basic but you honestly don't spend much time in there. You shower and sleep all of the other time you are outside by the pool or on trips. The room was cleaned everyday and we always had clean towels (we asked for a couple extra and they were always replaced) We had interconecting rooms, as requested before we arrived. The rooms were as we expected, and everything worked. We only had one very short powercut, about half an hour, in a storm. We didn't have any water cuts. No-one was ill and we didn't hear of anyone being ill either. The safe costs $2 a day, we kept our valubles locked or with us and we didn't have a problem with anything going missing.

The trips were amazing, do as many as you can!! We booked our trips through Swiss Travel and they were great. We did the Arenal volcano trip, a really long day (around 14 hours) but brilliant. You spend a lot of time driving, I had nicked the pillow from the plane and I found it very useful on this trip. The rainforest walk was interesting and the hot springs were brilliant.
We went on ATVs through the rainforest and had an awesome time. Me, my mum and my sister went on an adventure day where we zip-lined, went horse riding and went on a boat down a river. The staff doing the zip-lining were excellent, very safety concious and were always there to help you if you got stuck.
We only saw monkeys on the Arenal trip and quad biking, there weren't monkeys at the hotel and when we asked one of the waiters he said it was because it was the wrong season to see them. There were loads of iguanas, birds, huge toads, lizards and butterflies around the hotel and in the surrounding areas.

You have to remember when you book this hotel that it is not luxury and you definitely did not pay for luxury if you want a luxury hotel and not a family one pay for luxury and do not go here as you will be disappointed then come on here write a review and moan!
If you want an excellent family holiday with your children this hotel is the best.

Ok, I think I've ranted enough now, if you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me via trip advisor and I will be happy to answer them.
