We spent 4 nights at the Castello this Aug and it was out of this world. The welcome we received was so warm and thoughtful and this level of luxury pampering continued the entire time we were there. First of all the grounds are spectacular, perched on a hill overlooking gorgeous countryside. The pool and patios has a perfect view of sunset that can't be missed. The location is adjacent to many "must see" spots in Tuscany. We made an easy day out of seeing San Gimignano and Voltaire and with the help of the hotel had one of our best meals of the trip at lunch in San Gimignano. We also went into Cole Val d'Else which was interesting and can easily be seen in a morning. The town is also knowen for making Crystal. We also took a day trip to Siena and the Chianti area and had a great time. The drive is breathtaking and should not be missed. As we were leaving we went through the Brunello region so got in all our winery stops in pretty close proximity.
The room was over the top. I had upgraded to the room when I booked but we were blown away at how luxurious our room and bathroom were. We had windows that overlooked the country side and our bathroom was HUGE with a lovely soaking tub and shower. The services like putting fresh bottles of water next to each side of the bed and making sure their were extra electrical converters were so thoughtful. Also being in Tuscany they made sure we had a bottle opener and wine glasses to enjoy our treasures from visiting the areas wineries. Every little detail had clearly been thought about.
We were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary and they surprised us with Prosecco in the room with was a lovely touch. But not even that but they knew us by name and kept wishing us happy anniversary at the front desk etc. Everyone really cared abuot making you feel welcomed.
The pool was glorious. It was a warm summer so sitting up on the hill looking at the countryside while enjoying a dip was amazing. The water is heating and perfect! There were a good amount of families with smaller children but this wasn't a problem. I actually would love to bring my kids back.
The choices in restaurants were fantastic. We ate at all three but didn't do room service. I think my favorite was the terrace and unfortunately it became too cold to sit outside the night we booked to go there but inside was lovely too. My husband loved the signature cocktail. (I think was an Old Fashioned or Manhattan)
All and all I can't say enough of this hotel. We stayed in 6 hotels while on a two week trip and this hotel was a highlight. I think the thing that sets them apart is how welcoming they are.
