Istanbul has many islands (in English: Princess Islands) and almost at every island, you can rent a bike to have a good view and pleasant journey. Then go for a drink - with calamares, or as we did, kebab and köfte - and enjoy! Such beautiful sights, beaches, swimming, almost no cars, quiet (compared to the city!),...

The first of the small islands close to Istanbul is worth a visit. You can get here in 45 minutes- and when you get off the boat you'll immediately start enjoying the quiet, ambient atmosphere.

You can rent bikes and ride round the island in maybe 30 minutes. Or - you can turn left and start walking to Kumluk Beach (Plaji). For no money you will have a beach chair and other facilities - and hours later you will never want to leave this Paradise close to one af the World's biggest cities.

Very pleasant swimming day, closed of Istanbul, very kind people in this Island. Much more family island, less touristic place , with many armenian inhabitants.

After a long scenic boat ride from Istanbul, we were ready to do some exploring. This island has a gorgeous pebbly beach with the clearest water. The views are incredible.

We went for a little paddle, but the water was quite cold, so, wrenching ourselves away from the beach we headed in land and found ourselves climbing steep roads to the top of the island. Roads were often inclined at what felt like 45 degrees so pretty tough on our legs! It felt like walking on the highest gradient on a treadmill!

The view from the top was amazing.

I've written a blog post about my island hopping experience with pictures from the various islands and recommendations on things to do.
