Description: We believe in keeping our food mileage low, utilising the abundant produce in the area and working with both local farmers and the seasons to showcase what the Granite Belt has to offer. We support free range and sustainable farming practices, as well as organic where possible, and have given ourselves a strict three hour radius in which to source our produce - if we cannot get something within this radius, we simply do not use it. We allowed three hours so we were able to reach Ballina for seafood, however most things are coming from much closer to home. Currently our pork, tomatoes and garlic come from within minutes of the restaurant. Because we use such local produce, for the most part we are unable to order in cuts of meat, so meat comes to us as whole beasts, if not delivered by the farmer who raised and slaughtered it, then by the butcher who did. For this reason, you will notice our mains will often feature a cut of meat as well as a braise so we can utilise and pay homage to the whole animal. Everything possible is produced in house including the bread, cultured cream and butter and we like to feature wild foraged ingredients on our menu. We welcome you warmly to The Barrelroom and hope you can appreciate the effort we put into designing a menu that is not only delicious, but mindful, clever and above all, respectful of the produce we utilise.

We were there for dinner on a quiet Sunday evening so did not face some of the delays in service that others have commented on. The service was excellent.
The food was very good. While the menu is limited there were sufficient excellent choices for us.
We found the wine reasonably priced and very palatable.
We would definitely go back

My partner and I had a Degustation Dining Experience that was the best we've ever had. Not only was our waiter so well informed and professional but the food was out of this world. Combinations that drew on every tastebud in my mouth and the imagination and quality of each course was superb.

We visited here while staying in Ballandean. Four adults and 2 children. The room and ambience is quite nice. It's attached to the cellar door which we visited the day before. The staff we quite accomodating and let us know they could prepare any of the meat dishes as children dishes which we thought was good.
The pricing is similar to what we would pay in Brisbane but food itself was meh. I ordered the red claw yabbies which was just two yabbies cut in half served on black rocks (no idea how this added to the dish) accompanied by a bread roll. Quite underwhelming. Some of our group ordered the pork and cauliflower entrees. They quiet liked them. The pork dish I had for my main was better but a little dry and over cooked in places. The other dish we ordered was the fish which was again ok. It's not bad and maybe I just got two average dishes but when you charge city restaurant prices you have to deliver.

I visited this venue for a function on Friday night. The restaurant was closed for the Function.

The offering for the evening was a chef inspired menu using local produce form not more than 3 hours travel from the restaurant. All courses were paired with fabulous wines from the Ballandean Estate.

It was a cold Southern Downs evening and upon entry we had 3 gorgeous canapes served by the attentive wait staff. A roaring fire was going in the restaurant. A very fine setting for a formal black tie function.

The food was first class and matched erectly with the wines. We had a glass or 2 of great bubbles followed by a Chardonnay, Shiraz and Derif. Finally a truly inspired desert match by a sweet delicious desert wine.

The high light of the evening was 4 week dry aged beef fillet from local Black Angus Beef. The food was great and it is clear that the Chef knows his business.

A great meal - great surroundings, great wine and truly great service.

I would definitely eat here again and won't be shy at trying Southern Downs Wines in the future.

Be great for lunch and dinner at any time of the year.

We all (4 of us) had an amazing lunch after spending the weekend in Stanthorpe for the wonderful Snowflake Festival and the "Barrelroom" was the icing on the cake. The menu is limited but what a wonderful experience. Amazing, tasty, well presented food, wonderful staff and wines to match. We are still talking about the food and would travel 5 hours to go back in a heart beat. Great job guys, see you again.
