I had the salmon which was soaked in bitter lemon and 300 capers. The wife had the roast which was inedible except for the school dinner beef in gravy which took her back to her school days. Over priced badly cooked and raw carrots soaked in yellow vinegar custard on both meals. Sad as this place used to be great. Wouldn't come back to eat here. The worst food I ve had in NZ for years.

A group of us called in for a beer and some lunch and had a great time. We were lucky enough to be there for a 3 day fish special. 2 fillets of blue cod, thick cut chips, a side salad and a pint of beer for $20. Great value, good meal. Good service and a clean and tidy place.

We always come here when in Hanmer, creatures of habit. It's ok. The fella serving was lovely. When he asked the lady in the kitchen a question about my order she went off at him and I could hear from the counter. So unprofessional I felt really sorry for him. I asked if she was having a bad day and he said they were under staffed. Only about 1/4 full so she should have been fine!! Meals fine. Standard pub grub, nothing to rave over.

We decided on a pub meal. Usually good reliable non expensive fare. Not Al 'a' Carte by any means but a good tradition in NZ.
Don't bother at this place.
We ordered Roast beef and roast potatoes and vege with a side of Mash. Gravy on the side. Not expensive but you would expect at least to be able to eat it which I think is the purpose of food.
Delivery was cold roast potatoes, cold almost raw carrots, almost cold broccoli with hollandaise sauce on it, leathery yorkshire pudding filled with gravy and luke warm beef covered in gravy.
When we asked about the gravy advised Beef is cooked in the mornings put in a pan with gravy and then reheated in the evening.
Basically inedible. Our dog got the beef.
