The location is lovely and so is the view over Tanga bay. However, that’s where the good news stops. Other than the lady who cleaned our room the staff were very unfriendly, particularly the two ladies at reception were downright rude. The rooms are outdated and the bathrooms are in dire need to renovation. The fruit at breakfast was very good but the rest on offer was poor. The manager never greeted any of the guests or made eye contact. Security was also an issue. One day we returned to the hotel to find all the keys to the rooms inserted outside the rooms so that anybody could have entered at any time. In addition, on two consecutive evenings we saw the two security guards outside the entrance of the hotel fast asleep when we returned shortly after 9pm. This hotel has a great deal of potential and would greatly benefit from some renovations and a change of management.

We spent few relaxing nights at Mkonge hotel before Christmas and we really enjoyed our stay. Kids loved the swimming pool and the gardens, they enjoyed the space to run around.
Breakfast was not he greatest, but sufficient, none of us walked away hungry. Strangely we only had one meal at the hotel, but it was a nice one, fish was fresh, chips were crispy and chicken well grilled.
To us this is the place to stay, affordable and nice. Friendly staff.

Three nights were spent at this hotel during a business visit.

The hotel is set in pleasant grounds with sea views and outside dining facilities. The staff are very pleasant and welcoming.

The rooms are however very dated and the bathrooms in need of complete refurbishment.

On the plus side, the bed was comfortable and a fridge was provided.

Hot water is from solar energy and it takes a while to run warm. There is low water pressure in the shower which was also very grubby.

I stayed here for a couple of nights during a business trip. The staff were generally helpful. My room was clean and comfortable but the bathroom was in need of some refurbishment.

I paid to use the WiFi in my room but couldn't get any connection. Eventually discovered that you can get free internet in the main part of the hotel.

The food in the restaurant is tasty and breakfasts were good. Shame there was no real coffee though - only instant coffee.
