Looking at the other reviews I am wondering if we just lucked out because for us it felt like we were staying at a Hilton. The receptionist spoke excellent English and was very helpful stowing our luggage prior to check-in so we could go to Monet's house and gardens for the afternoon. The room was large, modern and beautiful with a large bed, large TV and very good internet and was very quiet. Modern updated bathroom with good water pressure and nice hot water. The toilet is in a separate room which was unique in our travels to other countries but seems to be a French thing since we did see this in another hotel we stayed at while in France. There was also an elevator that was American sized. All this for 100 euros/night which I thought was fantastic. We did not eat at the hotel for breakfast or dinner since it seemed a bit pricey. There are several very good restaurants and bakeries in Vernon that we chose to eat at that worked out fine. Easy to get to from the train station - just down the main drag to the bottom of the hill and turn right and then go up the hill and it is on the right. Besides it is a small town - if you just know a smattering of French you can ask someone and they will point you in the right direction. Everyone we met was extremely helpful. It is somewhat of a walk from the train station and if we were in our seventies or pulling a 50 pound suitcase it might be too much but we were fine. There are buses at the train station that go to Monet's place - you might be able to get dropped off at the town center if you ask. We chose to walk back to the train station to catch the bus to Monet's but then got dropped of at the center of Vernon to head back to the hotel. The Hotel Normandy is just a wonderful hotel in a quaint and friendly little city. Just loved it.
