A very magical place that together with the incredible staff and attention to detail makes it a wonder of a hotel! The beaches around the hotel are beautiful and very private.

For swimmers the pool is amazing. For foodies the food is to die for.

Thanks to all the staff for making us feel at home.

Be thoughtful that they’ll know your reservation by your first name and that’s how they know you throughout your stay!

I just returned from a blissful week-long birthday stay at Casa Chameleon - what a complete and absolute treat. I have stayed at luxury hotels and properties all over the world and Casa Chameleon surpasses most due to the stunning setting and first class personalized and friendly service. The property is gorgeous, the rooms (I was in a sunset suite) have amazing views, the pool is so peaceful and the town of Las Catalinas is a short walk down the hill. Sentido Norte (the on property restaurant) has great views and the food is the best in the area (for breakfast, lunch and dinner!). We relaxed, we hiked (several great trails for hiking and biking steps from the property), we did yoga, we ate, we drank and we laughed - really a perfect vacation. But as with so many other reviewers, I have to pay special attention and give thanks to the staff at Casa Chameleon - so friendly, so responsive, so customer focused - I don't know that I've ever experienced such a welcoming and service oriented crew. The concierge staff was exceptionally helpful and was very patient with all of my repeated questions and requests leading up to and during the trip - many thanks to William, Herlan and Pablo! I found them all to be particularly patient given that I do not speak Spanish and they were all so adept with English which was so helpful for me.

Really really special place. I can't recommend it enough.

Room tip: My Room (17) was a sunset suite and it had stunning views and was very quiet.

There are no words that could express the incredible experience my husband and I shared during our days there. The view from our room was breathtaking. The plunge pool was slightly cooler than a bath and was peaceful to spend time in. The restaurant had a thoughtful menu with a number of different options. We attended the BBQ on Friday night - excellent! Chef Jose shared how he prepared each of the five courses. He came around to the tables a couple of times. Every time he came to us, I was jotting down all the ingredients and how he made each item: roasted eggplant, portobello mushrooms, prime sirloin, short ribs, corn, sweet potato and pork ribs. He finished with plantains heated on the fire with vanilla ice cream. My husband enjoyed the variety of rum they recommended with the meal. Overall Exceptional!

The people were more than accommodating, always with a smile and willing to assist. The people of Costa Rica are warm, generous and generally happy people who want to share their beautiful country with you.

I would suggest, if you are not a physical/athletic couple, let them know you want to be closer to the resort. There are 22 rooms at Casa Chameleon. Our room was #20 and there were 81 steps to climb to reach the restaurant or reception area. If we had known, we would have definitely asked for a closer room when making the reservation. I mentioned it to Harlen, the concierge, and he said they would have accommodated our request.

If you want a private getaway, with all your needs met, this is the place for you. Pure Vida!!!

We stayed at Casa Chameleon for 7 nights to kick off our two week honeymoon in April and had a truly amazing time.

The property is beautiful and the views are stunning. This is an ideal place for those looking to rest and relax and the personalized attention from the staff really sets this place apart. As other reviewers have mentioned, the resort and the immediate area are rather quiet - this is not a late night, party destination but if you are looking for a romantic getaway filled with great food, drinks, and beautiful sunsets, don’t miss Casa Chameleon.

Getting to the property, we had arranged private transfer from Liberia to Casa Chameleon through the hotel. The driver was great and we were certainly glad that we didn’t have to drive the narrow, curvy road to the hotel and could simply sit back and relax during the start of our trip.

We stayed in villa 20 which is a sunset villa and had amazing views looking out over the ocean while in a secluded setting that made you feel like you were really the only room there. Twice daily housekeeping was fantastic and staff always kept our villa in perfect order.

While you can take the golf cart (or walk) down to the beach in Las Catalinas (and Casa Chameleon will provide you with beach towels, chairs, and a cooler) we spent the majority of our days enjoying the sights from the main infinity pool. Blas and the rest of the Sentido Norte team made sure we always had pineapple mojitos in hand and took great care of us while we lounged by the pool.

Sentido Norte itself is really quite good. Breakfast each morning and lunch by the pool each day was fantastic. Dinner was very good and varied enough that even having stayed for 7 nights and dined onsite most of those days, we hadn’t gotten tired of the food. Many nights they offer specials or a themed dinner - the Guanacaste themed night which highlighted local cuisine from the region was some of the best food we had in our two week stay in Costa Rica. All of the staff are fantastic but shout out to Carlos and Andres for excellent repeat service at the restaurant.

There are a few other restaurants nearby in Las Catalinas and we dined at Ponciana one night just to mix things up and they had surprisingly good pizza. We also had a casual meal and margaritas by the beach at Limonada one day. There are one or two other restaurants in town as well and a small “grocery store” that is really more of an expanded convenience store but it is nearby if you want to venture off property for any supplies without needing a car.

Spa services: We did a couples deep tissue massage through the hotel (they partner with a spa/salon in Las Catalinas) and really enjoyed it. They set up their tables in our villa and while it was a bit of tight squeeze, the massages were very good.

Excursions: We did the horseback riding trip and frankly would probably have skipped that if we had it to do over again (not the fault of the hotel in any way but the excursion itself is just ok). We also did the group catamaran trip which we really enjoyed. Even while the weather wasn’t ideal for snorkeling, the afternoon/evening on the boat was a lot of fun.

A few other honorable mentions - Rose and William were two of our favorite people (and first impressions) - they both went above and beyond in welcoming us and always making us feel at home as we were coming and going. William was critical in helping us with our dining reservations, excursions, and various other questions throughout our stay.

Again, if you are looking for a quiet, romantic place to enjoy excellent service, great food and drinks in a beautiful setting with outstanding sunsets and views, look no further.

This place IS truly a 5-star hotel-
But please read my entire review if you are really looking for certain things in a hotel. I will try not to ramble on, but feel the need to provide information for others that may have deterred us from booking this resort.
#1 Casa Chameleon has breathtaking views! No doubt!
BUT…
#2 If you’re looking to get away for the first time in a couple of years and finally SEE people and socialize, this is not the place unless you come with a group of friends. We definitely felt isolated here. There were maybe two couples up at the restaurant at breakfast and a sunset dinners the restaurant is pretty full but most kept to themselves. We rarely saw anyone at the pool.
Las Catalinas is just down the hill and was completely empty! It’s an little village they’re building, I assume for tourists to visit. The buildings are beautiful but again, so empty and quiet, almost like everyone is back in quarantine. I’m sure it will grow as more find out about it. There are a few restaurants but they also close fairly early.
#3 Casa Chameleon does come with a price, as you know when booking, it is not an all inclusive hotel. Yes, breakfast is included, but you have to go to the restaurant to eat and they tell you up front if you want it taken to your room, you will pay for the meal plus the “delivery fee”. Meals and drinks are pricey! They do serve generous portions so you can save by sharing a meal and appetizer.
#4 Viewing the sunset from the restaurant is a must! BUT you may not get a good sunset every single day due to the clouds and this is unpredictable. We were able to view one beautiful brilliant sunset, out of the four nights we were there. Other couples visited from other hotels, payed big bucks for the meal and drinks and unfortunately didn’t get a good sunset.
#5 The staff were wonderful and accommodating, they’re all definitely happy to help with whatever they can!
It’s pretty neat to see so many staff at the front desk, restaurant and bar ready to help. Whereas in the US, a fully staffed restaurant is still pretty rare.
#6 Our room with the sunset view plunge pool (not heated) was beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. We only got in our pool at night. Bar closes by 10 and that’s all that there is left to do there at the hotel. There is not a spa or gym at the resort. I believe you have to get a golf cart ride somewhere maybe in Las Catalinas so we just decided not mess with it since it was not convenient.
#7 Excursions
We took the Rio Celeste hike and sloth tour. Highly recommend, just know it takes a while to get there as anywhere in Costa Rica. But the waterfall was worth the hike (4 miles total) and the guide at Spring Paradise Bijagua was super friendly and helped us get amazing photos!
#8 also could be your #1…
We found out quickly it was our #1!
If you want to see and submerge yourself into REAL Costa Rica, jungle, volcanos, beautiful animals, stay in La Fortuna near the volcano!!!
**We moved up to Tabacon Resort for a day pass and stayed at Nayara Springs resort and was 100% worth the 4 hour drive!!! You’ll find my reviews there!

Room tip: Want some pizza? Get a ride (for a fee) to La Forketta-Just a short trip down the road!
