If you want a break, in a very peaceful, discrete space, with personal service, rather than time in a large hotel with hundreds of people dining in two fixed sittings, and towels needing to be put on sunbeds at 6a.m, then this might be the place for you.

There are just 31 single-storey villas on site here, well spaced out, so catering to a more discerning customer who just wants no fuss, other than their every need looked after by attentive staff.

The hotel is set in a beautiful location, just on the outskirts of Baia Sardinia, looking out over the sea to the Maddelena islands. It is set in large grounds with no surrounding noise (apart from occasional noise from the nearby Phi outdoor club, where the rich and famous fly in, by helicopter, to attend !). The setting for the dining area and swimming pool is to die for, looking out across the bay, with the sun setting each evening, in front of you, as you dine outside. Normally with a gentle breeze this is a stunning location.

All the staff are really friendly, and nothing is too much trouble, and Vincenzo, running the dining and Pool area, is a master of charm and helpfulness. Sandra also runs a very customer-focussed team in Reception.

We were there on half-board and the evening food is excellent, with a choice of 4 dishes for each course (starter, main, and deserts – sample menu included under photos), after you’ve had a self-serve hors d’oeuvre from the buffet on offer (also a great choice of beautifully-prepared dishes). The menu is changed daily. Drinks are not cheap, at €5 for a bottle of water or local beer, Red wine starting at €29/bottle and White at €27/bottle (they will keep unused bottles for the following evening). Every evening you eat at the same reserved table (although Vincenzo will arrange a move if requested), so you know it’s there whatever time you want to eat (7.30p.m to 9.30p.m for ordering).

The only negative I’d comment on is the fairly dated condition of the villas, although they are great, having private outside space with 2 sunbeds and 2 chairs (we were a Junior suite, but it was just one big room (plus bathroom) with a sofa at one end which you can have made up to a bed – it was OK but not quite the separate rooms we’ve had in other Junior suites elsewhere).

The rooms have air-conditioning, which worked well, a free safe, and a fridge.

There is no WiFi in rooms, but the Reception WiFi (free) extends to the dining and pool areas also.

Our room had limed-oak panel doors, some of them covering the hot water cylinder, the tile floors have clearly easily been stained with spillages and other marks. The bathroom was OK, but the shower is a simple fixed head, single spray, with nowhere at all to put shampoo or soap (carefully balance it on the cylindrical tap !) and the toilet roll holder wasn’t firmly fixed to the wall. The tiles looked very 1960s, being gold-coloured.

The chambermaids are very thorough and keep the villa really clean and tidy, including turning back your bed and leaving a small chocolate in the early evening – a nice touch.

If you hire a car then parking is spacious and you can park your car right outside your villa, requiring an entry-card (€20 deposit). Another nice touch is they have a couple of off-road bicycles which you can borrow for a quick ride into Baia Sardinia, or the large supermarket which is back at the main road into Baia Sardinia.

The reception and pool areas are lovely (apart from a permanent scum around the tide mark in the pool and lack of a poolside shower – the two are probably related ! There’s little excuse for this lack of attention to detail), but there is also loads of pool-side space and various chairs to sit on, quietly, and just read (they have the previous weekday’s Daily Telegraph delivered, along with other European national papers).

Overall, I’d say this is a good 4-star hotel, with the beautiful location, tranquility, and high levels of personal service making up for any datedness and basics in the accommodation. A blissful break, and we would return !

Room Tip: As separate villas, and very quiet, no strong opinion on good villas

The hotel, which is a series of very nicely appointed rooms each in a separate block, is a real gem. There are usually 2 suites to each physical block but they are entirely self contained, all very clean. They look a little like Aztec blocks!
By far and away the best point of the hotel is the staff. Sandra and Roberto ( Restaurant Manager) made us very welcome, moreover Sandra was extremely helpful in advising on good restaurants, phoning them to both to reserve and then encourage them, agreeing good rates etc etc. All the staff were very friendly and they made a real difference. I cannot praise them too highly.
The only negative for us was the evening meal, it was for us just a bit too much, too fixed and too expensive. There was one menu, a Prixe Fixe (EUR45 per person before drinks), with usually two or three choices for each of the various courses, usually 4 or 5 courses, so a real full blown Italian meal! Sometimes we would have preferred just a bowl of pasta and some fruit.

The hotel also has lovely views, great terrace and is fairly quiet. Wifi was in the hotel lobby rather than the rooms.

The area, for those unfamiliar with the Esmerelda Coast, is rather chic, very expensive and with more than its fair share of the glittering classes. Think an Italian version of the French Riviera! Unfortunately for those who left their sailing yachts behind there is a rather limited set of water sports and other activities. We were a bit late in the season, but although we could find pedallos and very expensive yacht charters, there was no water skiing, wind surfing, small sail boats etc. There were all day boat excursions but we didnt try them.
Restaurants were plentiful, especially the seaside variety found through out the world with rathe bland and expensive menus. However, through Sandra, we discovered several much better restaurants, that offred much better value for money.

We returned 2 weeks ago from a 7 night stay and have already booked a return next year. In our opinion it was hard to find a fault anywhere, accommodation, food. setting, location and staff who really cared about your holiday. Upgraded from a junior suite to a junior suite with pool was icing on the cake. If you are looking for peace and quiet in a serene and tranquil spot then look no further its all here. Private beech with an idyllic little bar, add to that a view of the archipelago and you have a small piece of heaven. We look forward to September 2015 to continue where we left off.

Room Tip: Junior suites offer a self contained garden.

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at the wonderful hotel Grand Relais Dei Nuraghi which was perfect for us from beginning to end. This hotel is a gem in the Sardinian paradise. The hotel is immaculately clean in all areas with rooms cleaned twice daily and beds turned down each night! We had the half board option and each evening there was a different menu with choices of either fish, meat or vegetarian option which was good for us as we don't eat meat, beautifully cooked, well presented, fresh and hot. This also allowed us to try dinner at any one of the sister hotels and we tried Le Palme which was equally delicious. Every member of staff from the front desk, restaurant, housekeeping and lovely Luciano at the beach were friendly, polite and totally professional. I would particularly like to mention the wonderful Sandra who couldn't have been more helpful than if we were her own personal guests a really lovely lady. This was our first experience of Sardinia and it certainly won't be our last we're already planning our return next year to this wonderful hotel.

We have just spent 7 nights at this fantastic hotel. As a previous reviewer mentions - this is an excellent 4 star hotel. The location is beautiful, food first class and the service excellent. We can be fairly demanding of hotels - I do not eat gluten and I wanted to organise a special meal in our garden - which was carried out perfectly and without a fuss. Every member of staff has a wonderful, friendly but efficient manner and cannot be faulted. We also ate in Baia Sardinia a couple of times - once at Ristorante CORBEZZOLO which serves gluten free pasta and pizza - which was fantastic. We had lovely weather, ate outside all of the time and were not troubled by wasps at all! A perfect relaxing introduction to Sardinia and we will definitely be back.

Room Tip: The rooms are cleverly built so it didn't seem that any were overlooked by others. The walk back from the beach is up a slight gradient but even though I do struggle a little with mobility - if taken slowly this was fine. If not there is a frequent shuttle up and down.
