Just returned from a relaxing break at this beautiful countryside hotel. Staff were very welcoming and professional, rooms tastefully decorated and very clean. Lots to offer for breakfast!
The spa facilities were immaculate and treatments perfect for a relaxing weekend.
Nothing was too much trouble at Charlton House

Thank you for a much needed perfect break!

This was a treat for me and my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary. We had a spa deal which included a 55 min treatment each and a two course dinner. The reception staff was lovely and showed us around the hotel. Our room was not ready yet as we had arrived early for our treatments, however we were able to use the spa if we wished. We chose to have a drink on the terrace which had a view of the well kept garden. When we went to the spa we were welcomed by two very friendly and professional spa staff who took us to our double treatment room, in which we had a wonderful massage and I also had a facial which was great. We then used the spa facilities, which again were great. The only downfall of the spa is that the changing rooms are a bit small, I can imagine it would be a bit of a squeeze with lots of people in there, and the spa and outside area is not that big. It was definitely less busy by the time we used the spa at 3.30pm compared to when we were shown around earlier in the day at 1pm in which the spa looked packed! We were very impressed with our room (called tudor animals), it was large and clean and the bed was very comfortable. The only downside was the noisy extractor fan that went on for ages after the light went off, the noisy plumbing after you flushed the toilet, the fridge did not appear to work, and the bathroom needed some decorating as the shower appeared to be leaking. The rest of the day was fantastic, we really enjoyed prosecco outside in the sun on the double sun loungers (even the fact there was a noisy bouncy castle for a wedding outside on the grass). The meal in the evening was delicious, yes the portions are not huge, but we were both very full after our 3 courses and each course tasted amazing and the service was quick and friendly. At breakfast the service was not so great, we were told to sit anywhere, in which we did then had to wait 10 minutes for the waitress to take our order for coffee (I had to go and ask someone to take our order), in which we ordered breakfast at the same time. Out full English then came out before we had even received our coffee and toast and I had to ask for it again. This however did not detract from the great time we had overall. Again the food tasted really good.

We thought the trip was great value for money and did have an amazing time and we are definitely planning to visit again.

Came here for our wedding anniversary. First impression as you drive in is lovely. Friendly welcome at reception. When looking around our room we noticed although lovely it was very dated. Cracks in the ceiling and by the toilet. The rest of the room was ok but could do with being slightly modernised. The same goes for the rest of the hotel, the bar had damp patches on the ceiling and again I know it's supposed to be authentic it could still do with being updated.

The spa was fantastic. Nice and clean and would highly recommend a full body massage.

Overall, a nice experience but could do with a rejuvenation.

My husband and I visited this lovely hotel as part of a Secret Escapes Spa Deal.
Well what can I say, the Spa was relaxing, our room was just gorgeous with a huge bed, awesome bathroom and double doors leading direct from the room onto the beautiful gardens (LOVED the double loungers in the sunshine). The food and service was just excellent... Can't wait for another deal to surface so we can afford to go again!! Thank you xx

We have neglected to leave our review of Charlton House Spa despite having been there twice now... this review has been prompted by just having booked our third visit !
The Charlton House is our favourite retreat and the staff have always been very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The restaurant is a very pleasant conservatory, looking out over the grounds. The food is excellent, interesting and delicious, the menu is well thought out and borders on fine dining without the extortionate price tag!
Breakfast is superb with a good choice of cereals, fruit, yogurt, croissants, juices and tea or coffee. There is also a a hot breakfast menu where you can order a freshly cooked traditional breakfast and a variety of other choices too.
The rooms are all individual and are quirky and have lovely furniture, mostly antique style beds and beamed ceilings, giving a romantic feel. The first time I booked a small double as a surprise for my wife's birthday.... The surprise was disappointment ! I would have to say that if you are going for a romantic break or birthday surprise etc definitely book a standard double or better.
However having expressed our disappointment to the duty manager we were offered a free upgrade to a superior suite which was absolutely awesome and made us fall in love with Charlton House.
On our second visit we stayed in the secret garden room which is a standard double and is beautiful with views over the garden.
The Spa is Really lovely, not pretentious and has an outdoor area with hot tub. The indoor pool is of a Moroccan theme and there is a sauna, steam room and various treatments available at extra cost.
Overall.... There are a few rough edges if you look closely enough, but for us the ambience and the way the hotel is designed is right up our street, we love it ! Two nights in October just booked...can't wait !
