On an unseasonably warm April day, we enjoyed drinks in the garden. The staff were extremely accommodating and very patient with our son, it honestly felt like being around family!

Based on our experience we would certainly return to bask in the warm welcome and superb hospitality. I didn't get the waiter and chef's names, but it was the afternoon of April 19 and they were a delight.

This new hotel opened in 2017 is clean, modern and traditional all in one.

The reception is welcoming with an open fire and friendly, English speaking staff.

The rooms based round an open quadrangle offer views over the local summer houses towards the dunes. Each with tea, coffee, tv, Internet, but the main feature is relaxation.

Blokhus is not on any tour route, you have to want to come here, about 30 mins by car from Aalborg in northern Denmark, it is a haven of tranquility.

The beach is a short walk away, and being March is a cold but pleasing walk. And when back at the hotel you can make use of the pool and have a great evening meal. (Breakfast is a good local spread as you would expect in a Scandinavian county).

This is not for adventure seekers, and it is not the cheapest hotel but for standards and relaxation it is worth the money.

Everything was absolutely top notch. Room, service, breakfast, staff, spa, parking, wifi, bed, linen, bathrooms. Great location as well. I wish them great success. Not cheap at all, but worth it. Would come back if I'm in the area.

We stayed for four nights at this brand new beach hotel, only a week after its opening. The hotel is stunningly beautiful - both architecture and interior design - and has clear references to famous beach hotels such as Brøndums at Skagen - yet does not try to be a copy.

We were overall very happy about our stay. Yet, we hope that this review may provide some useful feedback for the management, so that our next visit will be just excellent - the potential is definitely there!

All the staff that we met - reception, cleaning, restaurant - were extremely polite, sweet and helpful in every way. We had originally booked a Deluxe Room with private garden, thinking that this would be ideal since we were staying with our dog. Upon arrival, however, we discovered that the private garden was shared with four other rooms, which meant that we couldn't have our dog without a leash at any time. That was not what we had hoped for, since we chose this hotel for it's pet friendliness. The reception staff were very understanding and were able to put us up in a Deluxe Room with a large balcony instead. This was ideal to our needs, and not only that - the reception staff also made sure to help reimburse us for the "downgrade", advising us how to refund the price difference. We were very impressed with that kind of dedicated customer satisfactory service.

The room itself was large and beautiful with a big bed, minibar, a desk and a wardrobe. A few details about the room surprised us. There was very little space in the wardrobe to store clothes. The few, extremely narrow shelves were occupied by glasses (!) and extra pillows, leaving only five hangers for clothes. On the other hand, the low rise closet containing the minibar fridge had a next to empty shelf at floor level. Not a very comfortable place to store clothes. We ended up using the extra pillows and relocated the glasses to the minibar cupboard. Having cleared up some space in the wardrobe, we could use the narrow shelves in the wardrobe for our clothes. Most clothes, however, had to be left in the suitcases. This did not meet our expectations regarding a room in a Deluxe category. Some sort of furniture for storing clothes should have been available. It was also quite odd that there were no bedside tables.

The bathroom was huge with a both a separate bath tub and a shower. Again, there was a lack of thinking of where to store the guest toiletries. The stool next to the sink was already crowded with a kleenex box and the hotel's own toiletries. The glass shelf under the sink was filled with towels. No other space was offered. We solved it by hanging all the unused towels so that we could put our toiletbags on the glass shelf under the sink. There were no mugs or glasses to be found for the toothbrushes. We ended up using the whiskey glasses from the minibar.

The cleaning of the room was unfortunately the biggest disappointment of the stay. It seemed that all the cleaning staff would do was to make the bed and change the waste bags. The sink and the mirrors weren't cleaned once. We are unsure if the toilet was cleaned. The towels were only changed if we put them on the floor (there was no sign about the towel changing policy) and dirty wash clothes weren't changed even if they lay visible on the side of the bath tub. Was the room ever vacuumed? The bed linen were definitely never changed. Being a beach hotel, sand was of course something that involuntarily was dragged in to the room. By our fourth night, the sheets gave us an unexpected peeling experience, as sand was piling up every night. Walking barefoot in the room was also a not so nice experience by the end of the week.

The hotel had a fantastically beautiful indoor wellness area, including a swimming pool (which partly also was a whirlpool - a very cool detail), a dry sauna, lounge chairs and a tiny but beautifully designed fitness room. By the side of the swimming pool there was a table with fresh fruit, refreshing drinks and clean towels. Unfortunately, there seemed to be no check list and/or schedule for the staff managing the wellness area. As we arrived, there were no towels available, all drink bottles were empty and the table was crowded with used glasses. As we notified the reception staff, this was all rectified with a smile.

The dry sauna was beautiful, but was a bit on the hot side for our taste (95 C).

A minor detail that we were missing in the wellness area was some sort of clock. We had a dinner reservation later that night and therefore wanted to be able to check the time. Since there was no changing room, and we therefore had changed in our hotel room, our watches were left there.

The restaurant was of very high standard. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast, which every morning also included a different egg dish made to order. Some small details:
- A standard breakfast tea selection at a four-five star hotel aught to include not only English Breakfast, but also Earl Grey as black tea selection.
- The milk and juices were often not refilled for long times.
- The removal of plates from the tables, on the other hand, were often a bit too quick, snagging half of the butter or cheese while we were up fetching more bread.

We had a three course dinner at the restaurant one night. The food was absolutely delicious and the suggested wines were also excellent. We felt "lucky" to get a table, since our reservation seemed to have been lost. To not miss out on another chance later in the week, we made sure to make a reservation at the restaurant - not the reception. Due to factors out of our control, we ended up having to cancel that reservation shortly before we were supposed to arrive. That wasn't a problem since, once again, our reservation couldn't be found.

To finish off, the overall intention of this hotel is really excellent. The staff, the location and the property are all super. Once this hotel has run for a while, we are sure that all the minor problems at the startup will be smoothed out.
