Very good hotel. We stayed here for three night and had booked half-board. The breakfast and dinners were excellent! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean. The area is great for hiking. It was a very enjoyable stay indeed.

Just back from a week staying at the Hotel Matschner on a walking holiday organised by Inntravel.
There was far more walking, scrambling or more than you could do in a week, even using public transport at the end of September/beginning of October when the summer season is almost over. However the hotel organises 5 guided walks a week so you also have the option to join one of their trips - excellent if you do not have transport, and Erich the guide was very helpful and good company.
The hotel was lovely - the food really good, with a vegetarian option at each meal and a fantastic choice of food as a 'buffet style' starter course followed by a three course dinner. Breakfasts were delicious too.
Rooms on the south (where we were) get more sun, whereas those on the north get views of the Dachstein mountains, so decide which is more important to you.
The staff were really helpful, and it was a friendly and relaxed base to come back to after a days walking.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south get more sun - those on the north have Dachstein views.

We stayed for a week on a walking holiday and had a north facing room at the front of the hotel. Decent size and plenty of wardrobe space. Staff were lovely, particularly Sylvia at Reception, booking our trip to the Dachstein glacier and re- booking when the weather changed. Food was plentiful and suitable for vegetarian as well as meat-eaters. Particularly good breakfast buffet. Afternoon tea and cake everyday was welcomed after a day out walking!

We stayed at the Matschner over the half term holiday, and all three generations of the family loved it. The hotel provided excellent food for breakfast, afternoon tea, and dinner. The children took full advantage of the kids club and children's swimming pool, and the adults camped out in the sauna and adults pool. The hotel is well connected to several ski areas, including lots of cross country terrain. The staff was fully bi-lingual, and the English speaking contingent of the family had no problem interacting with any staff.

The hotel also is conveniently located across the street from two ski shops, so rentals were easy to sort out and the hotel had a partnership with the Ski School Ramsau, where the head of the school attended the hotel in person to sort out all the details for my children's lessons.

My wife and I have just come back from this excellent family hotel. A very efficient and properly run hotel with well trained, friendly and obliging staff. The food was of a very high standard and the free afternoon tea and cake was wonderful being available from 2.30 until 5.00. It was a lot more than tea and cake! The selection of cakes, pastries, hot dish, cold dish, coffee and varieties of tea was exceptional. You really could not leave this hotel feeling hungry!

The range of food for breakfast and dinner was outstanding and drinks prices were very fair, not at all like French or Swiss rip-off resort prices.

We paid for a south facing bedroom with a bathroom and balcony. The room was a reasonable size, spotless and had a nice view. The only slight downside is that we could not find any TV programmes in English. The WiFi internet worked very well in the room and was free.

In all it was hard to fault this place and we would have no hesitation in recommending it.
