Great location behind the xc-stadium. Excellent breakfast, coffee in the afternoon and dinner. Nice swimming pool and sauna department. Clean, but little old-fashioned Rooma. Poor wifi. Kind and helpoilta service.

The family running this hotel have been arranging holidays for four generations and it shows. Nothing is too much trouble, they anticipate that hungry winter walkers and skiers will be returning mid afternoon and provide an excellent, savoury buffet and high tea included with the package. The high quality swimming pools/sauna/gym are accessed though a heated corridor leading form the main building. The furnishings are also of high quality and the rooms more spacious than many ski hotels

Location: very good, in front of the Dachstein glacier; the hotel has a green field backward, where children have a playground and parents can relaxe themselves.
Inside there is a wooden kinder pavilion that is very nice (and useful!)
Dressing your bathrobe you can go, by a walking tunnel, to a bathing paradise (pools for adults, children and also bebè)

Staff: available, helpful and kind.
For children there is a woman who plans and leads daily activities and looks at them during dinner.
For adults there is a hiking guide who leads guests in the local mountains.

Services: you can find everything you need and quality is really 4*.
We loved eggs' cooking in the morning and the cakes' buffet in the afternoon.
Don't forget that they give you a "summer card" (from 2 nights staying) and you have free access to local lifts and also to glacier gondola (remember to book in advance for this last one).
There are also a lot of interesting activities for families in the area and quite everything free with the summer card.

Room: wooden furniture, large and clean rooms. Excellent landscape and quiet place all day long.

Price: I paid less than other received offers and (probably) I took much more services.

You must go!

We stayed at Matschner for 5 days with our two teenage children, and we had an absolutely wonderful stay!

We had a family room, with a bit more space, and an extra bedroom. The balcony provided a nice view of the Dachstein and the church.

Staff was very hospitable and helpful, and we were very happy with the daily breakfast and dinner buffets (dinner everyday is a buffet + choice of main course of fish/meat/vegetarian). Also, making your own lunch to take with you on the day's hike was no problem at all.

Everything in Ramsau is tuned to cater hiking. Many hiking maps readily available at the hotel, as well as a daily hike led by experienced guide Reinhold, for only the cost of transport to the hiking location.

When coming back from our hike, kuchen and coffee and tea were served in the lobby each day, very thoughtful.

Our children of 10 and 13 were not up to hiking everyday, but the kids' activities program was so much fun that most days they preferred joining the activity and we ended up hiking with just the two of us.

Swimming pool, sauna and fitness room all reachable via a little tunnel, and free use for Matschner guests.

The hotel als supplied us with a free Summer card, allowing for free public transport, free use of ski lifts (which is otherwise quite expensive), saving us a lot of money.

Wifi was also excellent, watching Netflix or YouTube was seamless.

In all, we loved Matschner, especially because of the staff, and if we ever return to Ramsau, we will definitely book here again.

We think this is an excellent hotel, very well run, nicely appointed with very good food and staff and in a super location slap bang in the centre of the town. The interior’s not lavish or showy, but it’s very well maintained and the place has a relaxed and informal atmosphere, underpinned by some very good and sincerely friendly service. That’s one of the things that marks out the family run hotels from the rest and it makes for an enjoyable experience. A tunnel links the main building to the nearby municipal sauna and swimming complex which gives guests access to a range of excellent facilities including a large swimming pool. If you’re cross country skiing it’s superbly located right by the winter sports stadium. It’s less good for downhill though which requires a ride on the hourly buses. It’s perfectly possible to do that though and quite a few guests do. Overall we really loved it for its authentic and straightforward charm and its good food.
