If you want a simple relaxing holiday without hassle this is the place. A 10 minute drive from the airport costs about 12 euros by Taxi. Reception was well staffed with plenty of people so no or very limited queuing, even when large coach transfers arrived. The hotel site is very large, probably half a mile from end to end and so has a couple of "hubs" with pools and bars in a variety of locations to reduce the need to walk large distances. There are effectively three different styles of hotel on offer all with the Barcello label with some shared facilities. I don't think the pools in the picture currently heading this page are actually available to standard "Castillo" customers as I believe it is on the "Premium" part of the site not accessible to most of the customers.
We stayed in the largest part of the complex, devoted to "bungalow" suites. Our Bungalow was newly refurbished and well decorated and comprised a large lounge with a Sofa Bed and TV and one armchair, dining table and 4 chairs all in new or nearly new condition. There was a small kitchen with refrigerator, microwave and two ring electric hob. More than adequate for AI but I would struggle if fully self catering. The bathroom was well equipped with a walk in shower with overhead "frying pan" style fixed shower head and a detachable wand for those wishing to keep the hair dry.
The bedroom had twin beds pushed together rather than a double with lots of extra bedding and pillows available in the very large fitted wardrobe. Dining room and bedroom were both air conditioned with cassette units. These were a bit noisy to run at night but very efficient. The small terrace was well furnished with a couple of sun loungers and a table and 4 chairs. Ours was right next to a path and so not at all "private" or enclosed but its not a problem if you are happy to say "Hola" to passing Hotel Staff and other guests every few minutes. Maid service was very good and very efficient. Most mornings we left the room for breakfast and the room had been swept, mopped, beds made, towels changed and bathroom wiped down and tidied, all before we returned 40 minutes later.
We went all inclusive and found the food to be very palatable with a very good range including lots of regional specialities and quite a lot of local fish. A particular highlight for us was squid prepared very simply in front of us on the griddle and served with a wedge of lemon. We also liked the Octopus prepared in a tomato and garlic sauce. Lots of simpler fare was available from roasted meats, ragouts, salad bars and cold meats and cheeses.
We spent most days by one of the pools, taking advantage of the AI pool bar. Part self service, part served by a barman, depending on what was required. Plenty of sun loungers and a choice of pools and locations. Sometimes the hotel provided music around the pool that was slightly intrusive but moving sun loungers was an easy solution. Also slightly intrusive was the daily visit from the hotel photographer trying to persuade guests to have their picture taken (this was a free service). He didn't want to take no for an answer! The hotel has a large 8+ team of young people whose job it is to entertain those around the pool and encourage them loudly and in several languages via a PA system, to join in with activities both sporting (beach volleyball etc) and sociable (sangria parties, smoothie parties etc.) They also run daily children's discos and put on a variety of evening shows in the very large pavilion/theatre next to the harbour. I think it is fair to say that the "Fun Team" are a very friendly group of young people and what they lack in specific performance skills, they certainly made up for in enthusiasm!
Loved it and will be returning soon.

7th Nov 2015.

WOW!!!!!!!

Perfection! 5* all the way. Spotlessly clean. Super friendly staff. Excellent chefs. Beautiful resort and location. We did see a lot of the island and didnt see anything as good as Barcelo. Great entertainment if you want it. To say this complex is large, you would not know it. On checking out, i had a tear in my eye when the lovely receptionist asked if we had enjoyed our stay, i replied, 'yes'. She asked if we would return, i said 'definately next year', she replied, 'oh good, then i will wait for you to return'! What a lovely touch.
I cannot explain in words how good Barcelo is. Just go, you will not be dissapointed.

See you next year to all at Barcelo !!!! Thank you for making our stay such a memorable one. XX

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Barcelo Castillo Beach Hotel. Our room was above our expectations with a walk in shower room. The beds were very comfortable. The food (all inclusive) was varied in choice and of a very reasonable standard. The staff (especially the entertainment team) were very good. We will certainly be going back to this hotel as soon as we are able. Very highly recommended

Stayed one week, transfer from Airport 15 mins. Service from reception staff excellent.
Apartment was a nice size and kept clean with a daily service. We were 'all inclusive' so didn't use the cooking facilities though they appeared to be adequate. Twin beds when we would have preferred a double was the only downside.
There are sunbeds on the patios of the apartments - some more private than others and of various aspects.
Pools were good and food in the El Castillo buffet style restaurant was varied and good quality. We ate in town on two occasions just for a change. Really good break and would recommend.

Came with husband for a week in November.
This is my second visit here. Last time was 4 years ago and boy had they done some work to the resort. Great new entertainment/restaurant/bar area down by the harbour, as well as a new Premium section.
This is a massive complex but as it's quite spread out it never gets crowded (off-peak season).
The room was lovely and spacious, with one of the most comfortable beds I have ever found in a hotel. Added bonus was the outside patio area with our own sun loungers and a huge balcony.
We stayed on B&B basis and enjoyed the versatile and generous breakfast selection in the hotel restaurant.
The location of this hotel is excellent, the 'town', the beach and the boardwalk on your doorstep. And all this just 10 minutes from the airport!
Staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are cleaned every day with a change of towels.
We will be back!!
