It is amazing to see such a huge lake without any sail boats or wind surfers or swimmers. The reason is clear, we are in China and the lake is heavily polluted. You see the fishes when they are belly-up. But things are improving. Everything in China is improving - except the internet. A lot of positive things are happening around the lake and I am sure in a few years this will be a great place for a relaxing weekend or a holiday. The infrastructure around the like is improving daily. The new roads and bicycle lanes are remarkable with wonderful gardening along the passage. No, I don't get paid for writing this. It is what I see over the last 3 years traveling there at least monthly. But it still a long way to go until this becomes a lake with small sail boats and wind surfers. Also, the average Chinese shies away from the sun and most cannot swim. This might change as well. At this point, no one would want to swim in that lake, even if you can swim well. It is just not clean yet.
What is nice is the bicycle ride along the shores. There is a great area near Huzhou and another near Wuxi. Maybe other places too. The lake is huge. I don't know every shore. It is only about 2 meters deep. That is a problem.
