This is a lovely hotel ..... we enjoyed many of the facilities provided and those that didn’t suit our taste we avoided. The heated outdoor pool was a real bonus in mid March and we took every advantage of it. There is just one area which we feel should be addressed and that is in the Las Vistas restaurant that food allergens be specified on every dish and not left to conjecture by the individual. It would also be helpful if more choices were offered for all gluten, dairy and egg allergies. Overal this is a great hotel and apart from the allergen issue we found the food of an excellent quality.

Room Tip: During March rooms on the south side enjoyed warm sunshine

Dear guest, thank you very much for using TripAdvisor and sharing your holiday experience with others. We are glad to read that you had a special winter break in our Sensimar Arona Gran and Spa hotel and that you enjoyed it to be in our heated pool. When somebody has allergies they can send us for example an email in advance so we can offer more special food options. With this in mind we hope to welcome you soon again.
Sunny regards from Tenerife.

We returned to the Arona Gran Hotel after 7 years and were pleasantly surprised at the improvements now presented via the roof top pool/café area for UP visitors.

An excellent addition to all the normal hotel facilities. Our room was a suite on 6th floor, with stunning views of the harbour and beyond and a well-appointed room.

Management and staff always smiling and happy to help, particularly with disabled visitors.

Well impressed and have booked to return in November!

Room Tip: Rooms on the 6th floor very quiet.

Thank you to TA reviewers for recommending the UP upgrade. We contacted the hotel in advance and they put a flag on the booking. When we turned up we were able to pay our supplement and this made sure we had a great room and the UP extras. (we never got the coffee machine or the Bluetooth speaker, but that wasn't really a problem but the included room safe was a must). Nerissa and the team in Up are great and the whole experience pays for itself, even if you are not big drinkers. Lovely views, comfy and plentiful sun loungers even when you turn up later in the day. The breakfast and tea snacks in addition to the lunch snacks were an unexpected surprise. Premium drinks and friendly service at the Up bar too.
We hired bikes one day and the reception sorted this, but we had a few issues with the company delivering the bikes “forgetting” and then one of bikes has really loud and screechy brakes, which made some of the elderly pedestrians on the promenade almost have heart attacks when we braked from the slowest of speeds. The hotel refunded us and this shows a high level of customer service that they did not want our bad experience to reflect upon the holiday.
My only niggle with the hotel was the main restaurant - It is massive and there are too many tables crammed into a tight space. Then you have hundreds of guests all trying to get food at the same time. Perhaps this was exacerbated by the high proportion of less mobile elderly guests many of whom seemed to lose where their table was and walk around randomly looking for any sign to help them find their table. Possibly due to the main clientele, much of the food is quite bland compared to other brands of hotels in Spain. It could be we hit a bad week. If there was the opportunity for an Up restaurant, I would be prepared to pay a little more for a less busy restaurant. The culinarium was nice, but there could be a gap in between for another restaurant option. Just an idea...

We stayed with 2 friends in January this year. We picked it because it was adult only and because of the guaranteed good weather in January, and because of all the excellent rated reviews on TA. Thank you TA you were right, we booked the half board UP package which was well worth the extra cost, in fact it made our holiday and is the reason we’ve rebooked for next January. The staff are amazing especially Nerrissa, who second guessed our every need. The roof terrace was pure luxury with comfy sun loungers, pool, jacuzzi, snacks and drinks to keep us going.
We’re not great fans of Buffett dining but after we got the lay of the land and found the bits we liked it was ok, the themed nights were the best. We ate at the Culinarium one night as part of the UP deal, and that was great, we tried to book for another night but it was full, it’s a shame it only opens in the evening 3 times a week. Our sea view room on the 6th floor was clean, comfy and well equipped. The evening entertainment was not always to our taste but if there was something we wanted to see the big problem was the poor view in the lounge, there are several large pillars which block your view unless you get a seat right at the front and the acoustics are pretty awful too. The surrounding area is nothing special, but there are lots of bars and restaurants within easy walking distance, we ate out a couple of times and Nerissa recommended a couple of good ones( can’t remember the names!).
Overall we loved the hotel, the service and most of all the UP! We’re looking forward to returning next year.
