Had a wonderful stay at Gratitude in Pondicherry during September end 2017. It is a very carefully restored heritage house. And it is being maintained very well by Siddarth and his team. The staff is very courteous, always ready to help and go out of their way to help everyone - all the while being non-intrusive. The place has very relaxing vibes and the rooms are quiet. One of the best room is room no. 6 on second floor which has its own amazing bath with a tub. The breakfast each day is completely home made - delicious and satisfying.

Surely, one of the very best hotels in the city. It is very well situated in the French quarters. Overall, this stay rates as one of the highest for my family. Thanks.

Room Tip: Room number 6 on first floor is very good - suitable for family with kid.

Stayed at Gratitude for the second time, this time with my husband. I wanted him to experience the heritage home and the serenity of this place. The place is so homely and calm, one doesn't need to think of any other place when in Pondicherry. Stayed in Room No. 5 which is on the first floor.

The room was cosy with comfortable bed and adequate space to chill around. They provide filter water in the room (in an earthern vessel) - if the water gets over, just inform the front desk and they will get it replenished. The washroom had ayurvedic body scrub / ubtan which was really good.

Your footwear needs to be kept near the gate (in shoe rack). Rubber slippers are provided in rooms to roam around the house in the same. This is to avoid bringing the dust and dirt inside the house.

Breakfast here is just being at home - served on community table where you can talk with strangers and discuss life and your travels (love the concept of community table). Breakfast included freshly baked croissant to hot dishes (one day it was sabudana poha and other day idli with 2 types of chutneys); museli with hot/ cold milk/ freshly brewed coffee/ curd/ fresh cut fruits/ breads along with marmalade/ strawberry jam/ honey. One can also request for eggs of any kinds- I had masala omelette on both the days and enjoyed the local dishes too. Ms. Shanti (the cook) really cooks delicious food.

All eating joints/ rock beach / aurobindo ashram are in walking distance from Gratitude. The front desk is always smiling and happy to help you in case of any questions.

The courtyard is very spacious and green and one can enjoy reading a book with a cup of coffee - the bright yellow walls adds beauty to the heritage home. A swing adds fun to the courtyard. The place is filled with pretty corners and rooms to take amazing pictures (insta worthy totally!)

They have a sun terrace too. So enjoy roaming around and explore the place.

We booked the taxi to go to Auroville from Gratitude only. We paid Rs 850 for 3 hours (driver waits for you at Auroville) and for an additional hour Rs. 100. We also booked taxi from them to go to Chennai Airport.

Highly recommended to solo travellers/ couples/ girls gang to stay here and experience wonderful hospitality and feel like being at home :)

Room Tip: Take rooms on first floor - room no. 6 which is most spacious and has a bath tub

We managed to snag the last 2 available rooms for the weekend before Independence day. While i did like the look of the place, I couldn't help but feel apprehensive simply because we didn't really have a choice of rooms to pick from !
I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised than I was from the moment we walked into room #3 .Before me was a cozy space with a dark wood writing desk, armoire with key and a comfortably outfitted queen size bed ! The long ,white cut work / applique blinds added much delight to the feel of the room. For the next 3 days,it became 'my space'...to read, to nap, to just curl up and chat etc etc...
The bathroom with it's lovely brass bucket, 'lota' and herbal powders brought back many childhood memories of the ritualistic 'great indian bucket bath'... a time when baths were elaborate cleansing routines rather than hurried showers while still saving water! So, yes I took my time doing just that. The thoughtfully placed tray, wooden spoon and other bathe essentials were just perfect not to mention the rough stone flooring that was ideal to scrape off the bits of beach sand still clinging to the feet.
In addition to all of that ,are the friendly staff who just pottered about their chores, helpful if we needed anything and discreet if we wanted to be left alone.
The breakfast ,a mix of typical South Indian and continental was just delicious served every morning on the dot at 8.30 by the energetic Shanthima !
Whether it was walking around in our house slippers, or meeting friends in the living room, the Gratitude heritage was the perfect blend of the comforts of home mixed with the amenities of a hotel.

Room Tip: Room 3 is lovely, Room 8 has a loft bed, perfect for 2 teenage boys but the bathroom is really small...

This was my third trip to Gratitude - I've now been coming to Pondicherry, partly to spend time here, and as always, it has been an incredibly refreshing and calming experience. The property is exquisite, and the staff are so sweetly thoughtful. Can't wait to be back again very soon!
