Owner description: Humpback whales, Orca's, Spermwhales and Finnwhales are frequently close to Andenes. We went there to visit the Spermwhales in a RIB. We were so exited because of the boattrip as the whales aswell. After a 30 minute boattrip the captain found the whales and we went to them. And it was so special to see these big friendly animals in real life. There was a group of 5 Spermwhales and one of them was so curious about the boat that he came to us. We really had the chance to see the Spermwhales very well and we made great pictures! Close to the harbour we visited a group of seals who where resting on a little island. Although not as impressive as the whales they where very cute (and much bigger then I thought) We were in Andenes in March and we will come back in januari when the Humpbackwhales and the Orca's are back!!!

We had a great bird safari with Marten on his RIB. We saw quite a few puffins (although most puffins had gone by the time we visited in late August), sea eagles, cormorants and other sea birds and lots of seals in the water.
We had booked our whale safari with the Whalesafari Andenes but in hindsight we should have booked with Sea Safari instead, it would have definitely felt a bit more of an adventure (although we have no regrets with the other operator).
I was slightly concerned about our kids (youngest aged 5) but the RIB felt really safe - although, admittedly, we had fantastic weather and very calm sea.
Marten is a great guy who takes wonderful photos of the local wildlife - which you can admire throughout the Sea Safari Andenes premises.
We also spent a night in the two en-suite bedrooms upstairs. It was the first time we found sheets on the beds during our visit to the islands, which was a great relief! The rooms are very minimalist but super clean and very pleasant, all at a fantastic price.
Thank you, we hope to be back early next year for the humpback whales! (shhh don't tell anyone....)

We took 3 whale safaris whilst here in Andenes, 2 of which were with Martin & SeaSafari. The whole experience was just magnificent, Martin explained everything superbly he equipped us with float suits to keep us warm & also keep us safe plus life belts. He was very knowledgeable & we felt completely safe in his hands. We saw 15 whale sightings whilst here & most were with Martin. His boat holds 12 people so was nice & intimate & everyone had an awesome view.... On return to base after 3hrs we were greeted with hot soup & the most yummy homemade bread (so good I cheekily got the recipe). Just brilliant!! We will be back!

We combined the puffin safari and a whale safari. The first day we went on the puffin safari. Our guide Marten Bril kindly explained all wildlife we could encounter. The sea was still rough from 3 days of storm, so he prepared us for what was to come. We sailed out and he steered us professionally through the waves. We were 2 adults and 3 kids. Our youngest is only 7 and he thoroughly enjoyed it! When we arrived at the bird island in Bleik we were awestruck by the number of puffins, being chased by white tailed eagles. Unforgettable. We stayed out for more than 3 hours. when we returned to base coffee, tea and excellent home made cake awaited us. The next morning we went on a whale safari. Our captain explained the care he needed to take when approaching the whales. In the end - even though there were 2 other bigger boats - he positioned us perfectly. We saw 4 whales (well actually we saw 2 whales, 1 of them resurfaced 3X just for us). We stayed out for almost 3,5 hours. Not only seeing the wildlife but the trip in itself was magnificent. Again we received tea, coffee and great cookies. Marten is a photographer so even if you can't take a picture you can always buy his. All get wetsuits & safety vests.
