“Best place on earth”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 March 2012

We stayed in the preferred club of the Dreams. Glennis and her team are the most welcoming staff I have encountered. We travelled with my 88 year-old mother for her birthday and my brother's family. Everything was perfect for us. The rooms, the food etc. They paid attention to all our needs and even more.

The entertainment staff is awesome too, the three teenagers had a great time and were never bored.

The beach is awesome, snorkeling of the dock is great.

My daughter (12) took a short diving class and we went for two awesome dives. The Grigri diving centre is great.

I highly recommend this resort and it is definitely worth staying in the preferred club for all the special attentions you get.

If only we could have stayed longer!

Room Tip: Rooms in the preferred club on the pool side are perfect location with easy access to everything.

I recently celebrated my honeymoon here staying from the 2nd to 16th February. I want to start the review with the negatives to our stay as this is what people read these reviews for, but I will say there are very few and all can be put into context. This hotel has recently had a lot of negative reviews most of which I would say were unfair but I can agree with some points. The first being the food at some of the a la carte restaurants. It can be very hit and miss the French restaurant (Bordeaux) for example was excellent every time we ate there, but the Italian (Portofino) I couldn't finish my food and had to walk out. Also during busy periods the food often came out cold. The problem I can see is that there is only one Head chef for the whole of the resort and he spends his time running in between the restaurants.

The other problems seems to be drinks. At the world cafe you can clearly tell that some of the juices are watered down concentrate and I would put this down to cost cutting as it is all fruit that they cannot source locally so is understandable. Also a big problem at the resort is premium drinks, although included they REALLY don't like to hand them out trying every trick in the book to put you off but again a sign of cost cutting. There have also been claims of watered down spirits and I would say this was true at some of the busier bars, but sorry this happens all over the world and at the end of the night we still went back to the room very merry and local lager is excellente!

Now for the positives! This hotel has everything covered and please take this advice when thinking of booking. If you would like a holiday where you want to spend the whole time relaxing (by the pool/beach) and want ultimate luxury then pay the extra money for the preferred club and you will have a 5 star experience for a good price. If you want sun, alcohol and a good party holiday then book normally and spend your time by the infinity pool and swim up bar where the bar staff will look after you and go to the desires disco! Finally if you want a good mixture of these or are a family etc then pay the small amount extra to get a room in block 5/7 because the rooms are excellent and spend time by the main pool/beach. I say this because if you have kids/teenagers then the "core zone" is nearby (even great for adults) to play an array of games/sports etc. There are also bars and the cocoa cafe nearby and it is also the best place to get involved in activities and games.

The entertainment team for are hands down the best part of this resort. They offer a massive selection of activities and shows to keep all age ranges busy and the more you take part the more 'funny money" you get to use in auctions to bid on bottles of rum, hats, t-shirts etc. we often found ourselves involved in the shows (karaoke and "Dancing around the world") They have everything covered and work so hard to make everyone happy and they do an amazing job!

So in summary, should you stay at this hotel....YES! I am never one to stay at the same hotel/resort twice but I will defiantly be going back next year. Yes it seems this hotel suffers slightly from money saving cut backs but this is happening everywhere in the current financial climate, but we still came home with massive smiles on our faces and amazing memories. This hotel still ticks every box for me and value for money I don't think I will find again for many years.

Stay here for the:

Hotel room - everything you need
Room service - included and always good
Minibar - included and even stocked with the odd surprise
World cafe - amazing selection of great food and I miss my rump steak lunches!
Bars - plenty of them and the staff are awesome
Staff - friendly, hard working and always helpful
Security - very good set up at all entrances/exits and roaming around make you feel safe and a good game is getting them to smile! Haha
Entertainment - all you could ask for, for all ages and a big THANK YOU to the team especially our family Coca Cola, Eddy Murphy, Shaggy Boy, Ramon, Caramello, James Bond and Anita. Look forward to having lunch with you guys again we miss you all!

Room Tip: Try and get a room in block 5 with garden view or block 7 for amazing rooms with peace and quiet

Have just had a great holiday at Dreams La Romana, returning a second timin two years Location, rooms and bar services all excellent with staff who would be a credit to any hotel as they are so helpful and pleasant.

Food was the biggest issue we encountered, and of variable and inconsistant quality across the a la carte restraunts.
Fusion, Bordeau ( French), Italina were good
Oceana ( seafood) was inconsistant
Patio ( mexican) was truly awful and we left as all the food was drenched in salt
World cafe also was terrible at breakfast with cold food served up at opening ( suspect it was pre cooked and chilled)
Beach bar was burgers and sausages every lunchrtime except one day a week where they held a "special" which was realy tasty and had variety.
Biggest issue with therestraunts is that the menu is quite restrictive and NEVER changed throughou the 14 days we was there,

Had a long session with the Food and beverage manager (Kenia Ramirez) and you can ask for things that are not on the menus to break that monotiny.

One other observation is that althouigh this is classed as a family hotel there were many more children than before and there is no adult only area, so wherever you go you will get kids running around, that said they were well behaved but it would have been nice to have had an area where we could have properly relaxed.

Would we go back.......... we are torn with that question, as it is a good hotel and by making a few improvements / changes to items above would have definately swayed our review marking up to a 5* and almost certainly prompted a revisit.

Room Tip: Lower floos in blocks 1,2,6,and 7 will give great garden views. Blocks 3 and 4 will be noisy late i...

I find it hard to believe that some people can say that there was nothing to eat at this resort.

We just got back and I have to say that this place has it all, it has one big buffet for breakfast and lunch 6 a la carte restaurants at night. Beef, fish, chicken veggies it had it all. Desert bar had cakes ice cream every fruit you could imagine.

Staff was great anything you needed they went out of their way to get it for you there was never any pressure to buy any of the time share units a simple no thanks did it. The guys selling tours on the beach are the best for booking tours you can barter a great excursion. The pools are great clean and warm the beach is perfect the sand is soft and white the water was calm and just like the pictures show. The bar staff are funny at the pool bar Alixs is the comical guy Santos will make you anything you can think of, they have brand name vodka rum Canadian Club Rye pop ice tea and tons of bottle water.

There was only 2 negative comments, the distance from Punta Cana was an hour and a half and our Vacation rep wasn't worth booking through at the resort book with the guys on the beach.

The rooms were clean the water pressure was perfect and the towels were soft the beds are comfortable.

For the value it truly was a great vacation. We had an awesome time with our friends

Room Tip: For best location building 4 or 3 are the best

We just got back from 10 days at Dreams La Romana and had a great time. The resort is pretty and very clean. They'd decked the room out with balloons etc when we got there as we'd told them it was our honeymoon which was a nice touch, and although I think our room was one of the more basic, it was perfectly adequate for what we needed and really pretty spacious. We're usually quite active on holidays but had a busy year last year and really just wanted to chill. So that's what we did which means that we are very relaxed now but can't actually tell you much about the activities/watersports etc as apart from swimming in the sea and the pools, we didn't do much else! I'm not really someone who likes to get involved in games etc and found that overall the staff left us alone in that regard. However, they are very attentive and pleasant when we did want something, and all the restaurants from the buffet to the a la carte were very pleasant, with good quality food and friendly staff. My wife used the spa, which I think cost her $120 for a spring package offer, and had a good time. I used the gym a few times and found it to be well air conditioned and most types of equipment I would need. The only downside to the resort we felt was that there is a team of staff strategically placed who are pushing to 'invite you' to a 10th anniversary presentation where you get a free gift. Well, yes you do get a free gift but only after sitting through a 2 hour presentation which amounts to trying to get you to sign up for their 'unlimited travel club' which is basically timeshare under a different guise. I would stay well away from this if I were you, as its a waste of time unless of course that kind of thing interests you. For me, it cheapened the otherwise brilliant resort as I really don't want to be hassled by this type of 'offer'. Overall tho, great staff, very clean and good food and drink. The all inclusive nature of the resort with premium drinks included meant we spent very little and just tipped where we felt it was warranted. We would go back, and it has given us a good impression of Dreams resorts in general.
