On a Tuesday lunchtime there isn´t much open in Árdales, so we ended up here knowing that the reviews were mixed .. but we were pleasantly surprised.

The terrace was totally full and there was a little wait, as the hard-working but still friendly waitress was working alone, but a couple of cold beers and a bowl of tasty olives made up for that.

Between 4 we shared a mixed salad, chicken in garlic and delicious pigs cheeks both served with homemade olive oil chips - all for just over €30.

There was also a good value 3 course menu del día for just €10 - if you´re hungry, order this and eat like a local!

Friendly reception from the owner. We were early (before 8pm), so the first there. The owner turned the TV on and we chose our meals. They don't speak English here, so after a bit of confusion when I asked what 'Iberico secreti' was (still no idea, but I understood it to be big, so chose meatballs instead) we ordered. A 'small mixed salad' turned out to be big, too. Strange (to us Brits) - it had tuna and sweetcorn as well as iceberg lettuce. Next course, meatballs (a yellow sauce, meatballs warm not hot, ok but not great) and lamb chops for OH which were plentiful and fine. Chips were obviously re-cooked as they were crispy and dried out. Local wine was good.

If you like a large room with its bright lights, TV and 'ok' food, then this will suit. It was the only place to eat on Tuesday night, and I wouldn't choose to return. Reasonable prices.

We ate outside in the square in front of the ayuntamiento. The Service was fine. We asked for grilled squids, callos and fried chicken. When i tasted the callos i thought that all the other Food was to Mutch. They where so good. The meal was very cheap. Great placa to eat.

Right on the city centre, on the left side of the main square (when you look up at the castle). It is a bar (soon as you enter the building) and then there's a large dining room in the back.
I'm not sure whether we simply were unlucky or it is always bad but nothing really saved our diner (maybe the Rioja - but that was bottled...).
We had a salmorejo (soup) called PORRA here that was pretty tasteless with the boiled egg looking slightly greenish, then we ordered calamares and gilled pork. The calamares were insipid and the pork unapettizing, both came with cold dark gray french fries. To finish off we ordered the cheasecake and the custard pie that were introduced as homemade and the obvious choice - they weren't.
In all, the place was large and quiet and the olives and the wine were good.
Would not do the same mistake again...

It gets extremely busy at lunchtimes but worth the wait. The staff are constantly running down the corridor at full speed. Nothing fancy just excellent value for money.
