Great location - Good accommodation

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 25 Apr 2021
We spent only one night at the hotel and got what we expected. Pretty large room, clean and quite comfortable with adequate bathroom.
There is a kettle in the reception area for hot water - it comes handy for a morning coffee / tea.
Overall, we were happy with our choice. Submukda Grand Hotel delivers good value for its relatively low price.

For 350 baht you can't go wrong. The room is air conditioned, has a refrig and is clean. It is right across the street from the bus stop. It is not fancy but OK for short stays or people making border runs. Same owner has hotel in front and back of bus stop. Take the one in back as it is more quite.

Room tip: choose hotel in back of bus stop.

The hotel is a bit expensive for Esarn but about the going-rate for Mukdahan. It's spotless and the staff are great. A 7-11 across the road and a 1-minute walk to the Mekong and even less to the Indo-Jin market. About 5 minutes walk to the night market. No great views from the rooms I stayed in but that isn't on my list of priorities. Plenty of restaurants, bars and clubs within walking distance.

Room tip: I stayed in 2 rooms. Both were fine.

For it's location and price, this hotel is fine for a short or long-term stay. The receptionist spoke good English and was very helpful in regards to the immigration office. The downtown office was closed, having relocated to near the bridge, and she was kind enough to call for me (no answer, but she tried). The rooms are large, and come equipped with a TV, mirror, chairs, and tables. Also a balcony. Unlike its twin by the bus station, the staff are friendly. While the rooms lack a refrigerator, the ac works fine and the shower is hot. Also the hotel is very clean. My bed wasn't as hard as some I've slept at in Asia. Also there is a 7'11 and ATM right across the street. You won't have much of a view and the rooms are kind of dark. Oh - there's an elevator!

Room tip: Might want to choose the north side as the south side had a yappy dog.

This is a perfectly serviceable, even pleasant hotel in a good location, just 3 minutes walk from the river. My room was spacious and comfortable but pretty much lacking in character. The brightest light in the room was actually in the bathroom, which could be a problem for anyone planning to read a book. I failed to understand that the difference between the 400 baht room and the 500 baht room was the presence of a fridge in the spendier one, so I wasted 100 baht on an appliance I didn't need.

Tuk-tuk drivers don' seem to know this plane. Two different drivers tried to take me to the Mukdahan Grand instead of the Submukda Grand

The hotel is very conveniently located. 3 minutes to the riverside markets, if that. If you go the other way there are some night markets which are quite interesting.Everything just about on your doorstep.
The rooms are fairly large with comfortable beds and I actually sat on the little balcony quite a few times.
The only issue I had was with the wifi as it seemed to get turned off late at night and I had to ask to have it turned back on in the morning. No problem having it turned on, though.
