Is Ok for a night stay while passing through ...

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 17 Dec 2019
Situated along the highway, the outlook of Villa Thiwa Hotel looks nice and inviting but the room shows signs of wear and tear. The entire compound has 3 blocks: A, B & C which houses some long term tenants on block A while blocks B & C are for short term guests.

This is a family-run hotel and checking in was simple which required a 100 THB deposit for the key card. The room shown in the picture looks new and bright but in actuality, it was half bright and looked somewhat tired. The bed lamps in the picture were absent and hence making the room half-bright or some may refer to as dark. Water pressure is good and hot water is constant for a freezing temperature of December. It is a non-smoking room but ashtray can be found on the balcony attached to the room. I am a non-smoker and fortunately, there isn't any cigarette smell in the room.

Breakfast was simple with self-help coffee, toasts, meatball rice soup, and Vietnamese rice noodles just to keep your hunger away and not meant for a sumptuous meal.

Overall, the price for a night stay is around 500 THB which somewhat makes it attractive even though it is out of nowhere and every choice of destination outside the hotel would require a taxi.

I would recommend for a night stay if you are passing through provided you have transport.
Date of stay: December 2019
Room Tip: Rooms away from the highway are quieter.

A cheap hotel and you get what you pay for, but considering this part of Thailand is mainly for Thais the hotel is cheap and gives you what you want apart from Western food.
The room was a good size but not that clean, bed was OK and you get free Wi-fi
You can smoke on the balcony.
This hotel is about 4 kilometers from city centre.you can eat westnerd food at Robinsons big store which is about 1 and half kilometers from hotel.

Ideal place for transit hotel if u have a car because a bit outside city (5 mins drive to city center). Close also to new department store/ shopping mall (2kms) on the city outskirts.
Clean, cheap, quiet and quite new.
Large room with aircon.
Only 500 baht with breakfast (small buffet) included, for 2 persons.

Mukdahan is not a traveling city, it's a just transfer stop between Thailand and Lao. So not so many staff know English. But they're really friendly and always willing to help you at any time with smile.
The room is big and fully equipped. And there are two lovely dogs on the front desk.
But the free WiFi is not so stable and only around 10 TV channels with Thai language only. And the hotel is between the Friendship bridge and downtown, (5km each). outside the hotel is the road, nothing nearby, no 7-11, no night market, the nearest shopping mall is Robinson life style, 1.3km away.

I've stayed here 4 times now and the first 3 visits were great. Only during my last visit I had some language problems with the receptionist lady. It took her about 20 minutes to check me in because I needed to be near the wi-fi router. Besides that I have no complaints whatsoever about Villa Thiwa. It's a good place to stay on your way to Savannakhet or on your way back

Room tip: Ask for rooms upstairs, more quiet. Also ask for rooms closer to wi-fi router
