"Over the Hill" (like me 😁)

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 12 Feb 2020
Stayed one night because I was catching the Air Asia van following morning for a flight to Bangkok. Wish I hadn't, with much cheaper options nearby. This aging behemoth is actually much nicer inside than its drab gray exterior. The staff, very friendly and polite and welcoming (a BIG plus!), barely spoke English, and I ended up communicating with them in my limited Thai out of necessity. The Wi-Fi connection in my upper level room was spotty and poor, although in the lobby I had no connection issues whatsoever. In terms of cleanliness and comfort, the hotel was fine, although I think the same level of comfort and cleanliness can be found at much cheaper lodgings closer to the Mekong River. There was a wedding reception at the hotel the night I stayed, and noise from it permeated my room, albeit not too late. This hotel seems more geared to Thais and their functions than to foreigners. No one was unfriendly or inattentive to me. Quite the opposite. The staff just didn't seem prepared to deal with a foreigner, as if I had caught them by surprise. Breakfast was rather scant, but with additional menu options. Unimpressive.
Date of stay: January 2020
Room Tip: Don't assume English to be spoken fluently here.

Being a yearly visitor to Mukdahan, I have sampled several of the so called best hotel there and found the Mukdahan Grand to be one of my best choices for any length of stay. Each time I was met by a warm receptionist, friendly staff, and abundant help. My room was large and roomy with either twin full size beds or one king size bed, which were very comfortable. And, I have stayed at more expensive hotels there where the beds were hard as a rock. The amenities complimented the overall feel of the place. With each night's stay, I was welcomed with a complimentary breakfast. If available, the Mukdahan Grand is my first choice for a stay in Mukdahan.

There was no one who speaks English, I just needed to replace water bottles in the fridge with regular room temperature water bottles. Simple place but need a local to guide you around here. Place looks to be safe I had a stroll around and it has ATM on site and 7eleven stores Are just about few 100feet away

This hotel is owned by Chinese and it tells, The only good thing I can say about this hotel is the rooms are very good, the bathroom has bath with shower which is very good .
On arrival we went into the restaurant and ordered a cappuccino coffee, but don't do. Asked for club sandwich sorry don't have so I ordered a chicken salad, but did not have that, all 3 things were on their menu so we went into Mukdahan and found a very good cafe there.
In the morning the breakfast was just as bad so out of the 3 nights we stayed I gave the breakfast a miss twice.
The restaurant has karaoke at night, not what I am used to in a 4 star hotel restaurant

This hotel is a bit old; however, they provide good service. Room was clean and in acceptable condition. Free wifi is available all over the hotel. Two bottles of water are provided as complimentary each night.

Breakfast serve both local and international menu, buffet. Try a local breakfast, called pan egg.

Since they charge at competitive price, less than 1,000 baht, it is considered a good option for short stay.
