Beautiful building set in lovely Northumbrian countryside. First impressions very good. The room was ready early and everything was as expected.
An early afternoon drink in the cocktail bar was a good idea. The 50 minute wait for a sandwich when there was no-one else around, less good. The sandwich itself was very good. To be charged twice for it, slightly irritating.
Dinner and the evening service, was excellent. The food well cooked and very well presented. The wine list had a good selection at very reasonable prices.
An early trip to the Spa was an enjoyable start to the day. Facilities were clean and easy to access. Basic, but functional - although the treatments excellent and good value.
Arrived for breakfast at a busy time but felt disappointed to have to wait over 40 minutes to get a coffee never mind order the food... The breakfast itself was plentiful although the poached eggs resembled hard boiled.
The hotel was fully booked and deservedly so. The staff were very courteous and overall I would recommend a stay. Just a couple of niggles with the finer details.More
