What an oasis in the mining town. Spacious and well laid out with a nice pool area and general ambiance.

Room was spacious with all the expected features. The DSTV boquet is the norm at all hotels in Africa.

Unfortunatley we did not dine or have breakfast.

I will stay there when I return

Clean rooms cold beer and friendly staff. However internet is not reliable, so from a business point of view you cant get to much done. I have stayed here numerous times as it is convenient when visiting KCM, and the internet is still the same as 4 years ago.

if you compare this with other hotels, elsewhere, you wouldn't be impressed. But this is probably one of the best hotels within a half day's drive. I say "probably", because there are an increasing number of independent lodges opening across the Copperbelt.

The hotel provides decent comfort at a fair price.
The rooms - all on the ground floor - are spacious (although only one armchair) with a big, comfortable king-size bed, a large TV (with multiple cable channels), plenty of hanging space and a safe. The air-conditioning is a bit hit-and-miss: if there is a power cut, the hotel's generator kicks in and the lighting works but the A/C does not.
The bathroom is big, a bit clumsy and dated but absoluely fit-for-purpose with a "honme-made" shower - but that shower powerfully blasts out endless hot water.
The restaurant is basic but has a good choice at breakfast, lunch and dinner. A downside (possibly as elsewhere in Zambia) is that there is no designated smoking area, which can be irritating if you suddenly have a large group of smokers at the next table.
The bar is small and a bit sterile, but passable and serves a variety of identical lagers.
The pool is small but obviously popular.
The wifi service was poor - both the hotel's facility and the local internet service. I'v used quicker dial-up. This will probably be the case everywhere locally though.

The staff were always helpful, friendly and nicely laid back. (Hotel staff in some countries can get very "formal and aloof" but the staff at the Protea here treat you respectfully but also like a friend. It works really well and makes for a relaxing stay.

There is no spa or gym - a curious omission, given that it's 90% business travellers staying.

Room Tip: Ask for the north side as the view is a little better.

My wife and I spent 5 nights here, our base for a nostalgic visit to Chingola, our home nearly 40 years ago.

The hotel was perfectly adequate for our stay. It was clean and comfortable, the food in the restaurant was good, and the staff were helpful and friendly.

It's a pity the pool was not heated and that only 5 sunloungers were available, but the pool area was a pleasant place to relax for a few hours.

WiFi was complimentary but very slow. Fine for checking email, but painful for any serious internet browsing.

In response to your comment regarding the sun loungers, the hotel took the opportunity to carry out some maintenance work on several of the sun loungers, as it was the cold season. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience this caused.

Your interest and concern are extremely valuable to us and we hope that you will be staying with us again soon. We should welcome another opportunity to show you Protea Hospitality at its best.
