As a group of Senior Cotizens we stayed here whilst touring the area. Staff really friendly. Food not bad for buffet breakfast and dinner. Very clean rooms. Nice grounds for evening strolls and hotel within easy access of all places we were visiting.

We stayed here for two nights in an executive room with breakfast included in a non smoking room.
We had suitcases with us that we had to carry upstairs to get to the upper level.
Wifi was very patchy and we couldn’t load and research our travels online which was quite frustrating. We couldn’t make or receive a phone call in our room at all there was no reception .
The breakfast range was small and the eggs weren’t topped up. Quite $$ for what we paid .

Hello travelchick119,

Thank you for staying with us and sharing us your experience during your stay. I am sorry if your stay was not 100% satisfactory due to the poor WiFi service and the breakfast options served fell below your expectations. IHG sincerely cares about your experience, and I appreciate your taking the time to let us know. I have shared your comments with hotel management, who responded with genuine concern for the impact this had on your stay. They ensure that the property improvement plan is due to start this year to enhance our guest experience.

Thanks for staying with us and we hope to have you as our guest again very soon and see the improvements made.

Kind Regards,

Dianne L.

Although the holiday inn is a fairly large chain of hotels, the level of service of their people varies from place to place. I stayed for 2 nights on a business trip and found that the level of service in the restaurant was outstanding. One young lady in particular was exemplary and went out of her way to ensure that I received the very best of service. Emma was cheerful, bright, courteous and polite. This is the type of service that we are very sadly missing so much of in the UK now. It was a very busy night with coaches of visitors from both France and China yet she retained an air of coolness and did not lose her smile. For this service I would give them 6 out of 5 stars.

This is a 1970s built, shabby hotel that has had some refurbishment. It still has a long way to go. The reception and bar area is nice and the old long corridors have had new windows and a carpet. The furniture in the room was old and worn and the bathroom door did not close, although the rest of the bathroom had been refurbished. Having said all of this the hotel was very clean and the beds comfy. The rooms were quiet and the breakfast tasty.

What made our stay, however, was Ronnie, who was behind reception. When we returned from our meal out in a local restaurant, we commented on the age of the hotel and the foyer and he was keen to tell us all about the buildings history, even taking us outside and showing us various changes over the years. What a delightful man to have working in a customer facing role. He answered all of our questions and was so knowledgeable about the hotel and the areas history. What a fantastic ambassador for the area and for Holiday Inn.

It’s in a good location at the edge of Leeds, to the East and has plenty of car parking. It rather looked to us as if they were focused on coach parties. It doesn’t look much from the front, but it’s actually quite big behind with many rooms. We stayed for convenience.

The public areas looked as if they had been recently redecorated and the public loos were very clean and well appointed. However, many of the corridors betrayed neglect in terms of decorative quality and very dated appearance.

We had an executive room (recently refurbished it seemed) which, though quite small, was well appointed with dressing gowns, minibar, tea facilities, trouser press, hairdryer and a superb shower. The air con was a bit noisy, but necessary as the room was very stuffy on arrival.

The Wi-Fi was a bit awkward at times with weak signal but we just about managed.

Getting to and from the room was a trek up and down several stairs, or wandering around the back of the building to avoid some of the stairs. They do have some stair lifts if you are infirm but you needed a staff member to operate if you wanted to use them.

There is a health club but we didn’t try, or swim, due to no time.

Breakfast was supposed to be a buffet, but the hot part was only open for a short while (probably until the coach parties had left) but it didn’t matter as you got what you wanted cooked to order - and it was very nice although the back bacon might have been cooked a bit more.

We ate an early dinner out of necessity which was average, and certainly overpriced for what was delivered.

Baked mushrooms were tinned mushrooms served in a thin sauce. They didn’t look baked. The (toasted) sour dough bread was nice though. Smoked salmon pate was good, as was the vege soup.

The rump steak offering was expensive, but cooked exactly as ordered. The sides were OK but nothing special.

The slow cooked beef rib was very good, though the portion a bit small.

Lemon meringue pie was OK, but not inspiring. We’ve bought better ones from the supermarket.

The whole meal just looked very dull and ordinary. It wasn’t bad, but for the cost one might have expected more.

Service throughout was very good, both in the restaurant and the bar - and front of house. It looked as if the staff were genuinely trying to please guests. Well done to the team.

We’ve rated it average. Maybe that was a bit harsh but it isn’t very good either and no mid-point is possible - and having stayed in several similarly priced hotels just in the last week, one can’t help compare and unfortunately this was the worst.
