Pernera Beach Hotel
Ranked #15 of 65 Hotels in Protaras
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 16 August 2017 via mobile

Just at the end of our weeks holiday here at the Pernera, doing the write-up whilst it's fresh in my mind.

The hotel is split up into 3 sections. The superior rooms are in the middle section and they are 50% wider giving the room a nicer feel with a better view than most. However 90% of the rooms in this hotel have a good sea view, so it doesn't make a massive difference, if a view is a top priority. We were very happy with the room and the view, obviously the higher the floor, the better the view. We were on the 2nd floor of 5 floors in room 285.

FOOD - Excellent amount of choice in both the breakfast and dinner restaurants. The only critiscim I would give is the quality is sometimes lacking. For example the ketchup (not heinz), the coffee (not ground), the chocolate sauce (not Nutella), the butter (not lurpak). Bread selection and freshness not always great either.

ENTERTAINMENT - Not bad, mini bingo every night. Hit and miss really. Fire show was the most interesting.

The Swimming Pool was not big enough for this size hotel. Especially when people are on their lilo's.

The service we received from reception, cleaners, lifeguards, waiters and the staff whilst we have been here has been excellent in every respect.

The bathroom in our room was our only other let down. It's looked like it's the original from the 1970's. The tiles are so ugly and it all needs ripping out. Probably the ugliest I ever seen.

Stayed at the Pernera Beach 23 July - 30 July. Check in although very late - welcome was superb from Stavros gave us a lot of information including booking in advance for the a-la-cartes and took our details for a request for late check-out on our departure.
We had booked a superior sea view room and it was great (it was in the new block) and was overlooking the grassed area about 50 metres from the sea - gorgeous! For us perfect it was lovely and quiet and a superb view of the sea whilst laying in bed. Rooms were very spacious and modern, tea and coffee facilities provided together with a brilliant little fridge. Excellent air conditioning and free safe. We were also provided with lovely fluffy white robes and slippers. Room was kept spotless by our chambermaid not sure what she was called but she was always so cheery and smiley despite the 40+ degree heat!!
Food & Drinks
Food was very good and always hot. Lots of choices for lunch and dinner I felt literally spoilt for choice. Lots of different salads and copious amounts of meat available. Breakfast was good not as much choice but it is breakfast!! Late breakfast was available 10.00 - 11.00 but it was only continental but it was great and not as busy. Mealtimes did feel a bit chaotic with lots of people but there were always tables available. Sanitizer was available at the entrance when you were greeted but not many people used it - thought as you were greeted it they could give you a quick squirt at the time so to speak. Air conditioning in the restaurants was not great so very often it was a relief to leave which is a shame as the restaurants you eat in for lunch and dinner overlook the sea and have gorgeous outlooks. A-la-cartes were excellent do book as soon as you arrive because they do get booked up and they are also used for weddings. We preferred Thallasa it was absolutely perfect, delicious food and beautiful views, very romantic and fabulous service - staff were excellent.
Drinks we felt were overloaded with cheap syrupy liquids and didn't taste great to be honest. We kept to bottled water. You have a bottle in your little fridge in your room on arrival and then you have to re-fill yourself from a water machine by the bar in the outside entertainment area. We used to fill up in the evening and then put in the back of your fridge - time morning comes its frozen very refreshing when your working hard laying on your sun lounger! We did have a few nice drinks in the a-la-cartes but they came off the special cocktail menu so were not part of the all inclusive - superb mojitos made with branded alcohol.
We are not really pool people and prefer to sit on the beach or somewhere where you can see the sea. The Hotel had two pools, one was adults only and the other was a family pool together with a toddler area we felt considering the size of the hotel the pools could have done with being larger but having walked around the area most of the pools seemed to be of a small size for the hotel size. We chose to sit on the grassed area in front of our room, very often we didn't get down til 10.30 am but still plenty of sun loungers available, superb view of the sea - no tap dancing because the ground was too hot to walk on and a two minute walk to swim off a concrete slipway with easy access into the water which was nearby - the sea was amazing, and so warm. Beach looked nice but very busy.
Didn't really see any although the entertainment team helped to greet before dinner - we chose to go out most evenings.

It was a very relaxing, quiet week away which is just what we needed, ideally situated a five minute walk from shops and restaurants to have a potter around and a bus stop that will take you into Protaras Centre, should you want something more lively.

All in all we were very happy with the Pernera Beach and having visted the Atlantica Sea Breeze a couple of years ago we feel that the Pernera Beach is far superior and wouldn't hesitate to return. We feel with a few tweaks the Pernera Beach could be a 4 star!!

When compared to other hotels in Protaras which we have stayed in, this hotel fails to meet expectations. Then, of course, it does depend upon what sort of holiday you like. Very poor entertainment. Bingo? More suited to a low key holiday site. The evening outside area was dirty, people smoking & plastic chairs crammed in. No reserved sun beds. Saw guests getting up at 6am to place a towel or 4 on sun beds then not appearing until lunch time. This is banned by the hotel but not enforced. Spoils a holiday with practices like this. Hotel is located near a sandy beach & the majority of staff pleasant. Food typically 3 star, lunch food used again for the evening meal. All self service no waiters here to serve drinks. We cannot recommend this place - there are far nicer hotels in protaras to stay at.

Beautiful hotel, had an amazing holiday! Loved Maria our room cleaner. Restraunts were beautiful. Pool was cold. Food was lovely. Would highly recommend and would go back! We hated the front were the construction site was. We walked right along the prom everyday to all the other beaches along Prataras. There is a bus that takes you from outside to Aiya Napa. I will never forget the morning we woke up early to watch the sun rise it was amazing.

My first visit to Cyprus and the hotel certainly helped to make the stay enjoyable. Rooms were a fair size and clean and comfortable. Although the sofa bed could have done with a more comfortable mattress!
All staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful.
Excellent choice of foods in restaurants and good waiting staff who were extremely efficient. Bar staff also were at the top of their game. Never waited more than a minute to be served and their knowledge on cocktail making was excellent.
Josh, Mike and the entertainment team worked really hard all day and into the night, putting on some excellent shows and taking time to interact with holiday makers.
The hotel is in a fantastic location with great views.
Getting a sunbed near the pool was near on impossible with most "towel reserved" by 7am! Having said that, we always managed to get a bed on the grass area overlooking the sea which was fine for us.
I would certainly recommend this hotel for a fab family holiday and would definitely go back.
