The key word here is chilled out. The hotel is rather basic. However this isn't really a problem as it meets the fundamental requirements the rooms are clean, staff are friendly and helpful. I personally love the breakfast, fresh and tasty it will set you up for the day.

It's a plus having the beach 5 seconds from the hotel entrance and you can use the hotel beach loungers no extra cost, plus you can order drinks and refreshments from your lounger on the beach.

I only have 2 minor gripes
1. It would have been nice to have a fridge in the room to keep drinks cool.

2. Air-con was rather confusing to get working, it kept cutting out after 20 seconds, getting it to work was hit and miss. Which meant a couple of uncomfortable nights. I think the timer system was rather confusing. It would have been better if it simply had an on off switch.

On the whole a fantastic hotel, great location, professional and helpful staff.
I will definitely be coming back. ☺

We chose this hotel at random as we were in transit from airport to the dep Mani. We were surprised how easy it was to find from the airport and then the ease of booking in. It is right on the beach so loads of bars and restaurants to choose from.
We had a good nights sleep thanks to the zircon and enjoyed a great breakfast. Made even better when the owner (a John McEnroe doppelgänger) had a chat with us to find out if everything was up to standard - it certainly was, and I and my party would recommend this Hotel if you stay in Kalamata. CB

Room Tip: Pick a sea view room

Demetrios P, Owner at Hotel Ostria, responded to this reviewResponded 19 September 2017

I only wish my ground strokes were as good as John's but if that was the case, then I wouldn't have the pleasure of running the Ostria. Many thanks for the kind words!
Hope you stop by again soon.
Cheers
Demetri

The owner was very nice the staff during the day was nice as well. Had a bad incident with the night staff who was angry and did not want to help us with bedding . The owner was very nice and apologized for his behavior. The breakfast buffet was one of the best we had had. Good quality yogurt feta and olives we also strangely loved the pre packaged strawberry jam so good . We did not even know there was a coffee bar there where the staff would make a specialty coffee but we were not offered until we left and had 3 cups of what was out already. So ask first!

Very poor breakfast! Overall a very comfortable room, with wide beds, adequate air condition, a moderate toilet area, (toiletries not up to standards), a nice view, (for some!), to the sea!! Very few sunbeds and umbrellas to satisfy the customer needs in front of the hotel!

If your main goal is super convenient access to the beach, a fantastic ocean-view from your balcony, and walking access to many restaurants and cafes then this is the best hotel for that on the Navarinou strip at a very reasonable price. The first 2 floors have been updated and the rooms facing the ocean now have full glass walls and roomy balconies with 2 chairs and a small round table. Perfect for soaking in the ocean-view, enjoying a frappe and people-watching the people stroll below on the boardwalk. Breakfast is included, and it has a simple variety of filling foods. The bathrooms are small-ish which is typical but there is some useful counter-space. But the rooms feel spacious compared to many other hotel rooms that I've seen or stayed in on the Navarinou strip. The one area that needs improvement is the mattresses which were much too firm.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the ocean facing rooms that has been refreshed on floors 1 or 2.
