We recently stayed at Tiroran House Hotel for 2 nights on our first visit to Mull and found it to be just a brilliant place to stay.

The location's fantastic. You reach Tiroran down a set of Mull roads which are great fun to navigate and which get smaller and smaller until you arrive at the gates to the hotel. Once through, you're into beautifully kept gardens and a lovely cluster of buildings that make up the main house and the extra accommodation.

We were met at the door and shown to our room which was in one of the side annexe buildings. The room was a decent size, well appointed, clean, clearly recently refurbished and had everything we might have wanted in it.

We then wandered down the little stream that runs from the side of the house to the hotel's own private beach onto the loch below before heading in to dinner. The setting is idyllic.

Dinner itself was a big surprise to us at Tiroran and we really appreciate the thought that's gone into making this such a treat at a small, remote hotel like this.

Tiroran is not a Best Western nor The Ritz. There are 11 or so rooms and so, presumably for reasons of practicality, everyone eats at the same time. This turns out to be a really great thing as it means that there's a very sociable atmosphere and that the service runs like a well-oiled machine.

It also presumably helps with the food which turned out to be the best that we had on this trip to Scotland - compliments to the chef because dinner and breakfast were really great here and we also found some really good and reasonably priced wines on the list.

The other thing that stood out was the service - a really welcoming, friendly and professional group of people that made for a memorable trip. Laurence, Susan and the rest of the team are doing a fantastic job with this hotel and it makes for a very relaxing and pleasant place to stay.

If you like great food and wine, individuality, character, charm, comfort in beautiful settings then you can't go wrong at Tiroran - heartily recommended and I'd happily return (we did notice that many guests were on a return visit and we now understand why).

We have returned to this lovely country house hotel for a good few years now and have never been disappointed with the welcome, food and atmosphere. But maybe the weather this time!!!
We met some people who have been coming here for 11 years now!
The hotel is in a beautiful position and off the beaten track.
Laurence and Katie are very warm hosts and we really feel party of a country party!
We will return next year!

This hotel is a must for anyone who appreciates luxury with all the home comforts. All the staff are brilliant. Laurence is a real Gentleman who does everything in his power to make your stay enjoyable. The Chef Craig. I haven't met him yet but he is brilliant. Anyone who enjoys fine dining will love this guy's cooking. We have another 3 nights left and I'm sure they will be equally as good as the first 3. You must put this on your to do list.

Very remote, exclusive location, lovingly decorated house in a grand setting with stunning views over loch. Perfect, personal service overseen by Laurence, whose genial, charming, easy-going manner creates a very warm, welcoming atmosphere. Michelin star worthy kitchen, you must eat there when you stay. Fantastic food, imaginative amuse bouches, great interludes, lovely wines. Some of those astonishingly good value, G&T's for eight pounds quite steep, whisky drams from the very extensive single malt list at over £9 a bit cheeky.
The accommodation in the annex room 1 is NOT recommended, whilst the room as such is cosy enough the mattress is quite lumpy and the tiny bathroom with a hand-held shower over bath is ridiculous - you need to crouch, squat, sit or kneel in the narrow bathtub (none of which would be my favourite shower positions) due to the restricted headroom - avoid this. Also the rooms' location on the grounds between the area where the cars park (non-residents come dining) and main house means people either park right in front of your window, and/or walk past and look in.
We'd definitely come back, although stay in a different room.

Room Tip: Avoid Annexe room

We stayed here for two days in May 2015 and did not want to leave. The hospitality was of the highest level from the initial welcome to drink ls in the evening. The meals served in the restaurant were a delight. The location of the hotel is beautiful. We hope to be able to visit again!
