This was a main hotel for the G8 Summit in 2008, thanks to its amazing views and relative isolation on a mountaintop, for security. On one side you'll see the Pacific Ocean. On the other is the Lake Toya caldera, with it's adjacent active volcanoes.

The downside is being a half-hour's drive from Toyako Onsen, the nearest city. Also, when you check in, the staff will badger you to make restaurant reservations.

The bakery here is top notch, so the hotel is good for drives and picnics even if you're not staying here.

The location is great, originally worried that this is so far from the lake, maybe should look for one on the lake front, but after arriving in the hotel lobby, i know immediately this is the right location. Beautiful ocean view on one side and a perfect lake view on the other, the view cannot be better, it is the view you usually get at the end of a long hike, not the starting point. The rooms are ok, but the staff has a lot of chinese trainees that are not trained properly, and the hotel is not accommodating for babies. could not get a crib in the japanese room and does not offer any alternatives, even better restaurants offer a kids futon but not here. so if you have babies need to be careful what service they can provide.

Room tip: triple rooms are large and a better deal than japanese of jr suits

This is a modern 5 star hotel. Rooms are well equipped with modern facilities. Rooms are very clean and large. Rooms provide an excellent view of Lake Toya. Restaurants are very good. Apart from the international breakfast offered, guests should also try the traditional Japanese breakfast. Live music is available at the lobby at night. The lobby café also serves afternoon tea. Hotel staff are very polite and friendly.

Room tip: Choose room with lake view. Try traditiona Japanese breakfast.

This hotel is truly a one of kind experience with breath taking views all around. Credit is due to the Japanese for making such a huge luxury hotel resort complex in such an isolated place. As it hosted the G8 sometime back, many of the resort's public areas are huge and grand albeit a bit dated. While a refurbishment is probably overdue, the hotel's architecture and older design is very interesting. Service was prompt and the dining options were good. Special mention to the teppanyaki restaurant which made us an excellent meal and arashiyama kitcho which served a remarkable multi course kaiseki meal.

Room tip: A room with a view of lake Toya

Located on top of the hill between Lake Toya and the sea, you will have amazing view for both the lake and sea! plus good service and awesome fireworks!
Food was quite expensive but good quality. Make sure you plan your activity well in advance due to the booking system
