Salt Rock Hotel & Beach Resort

Although it is an older hotel, the Salt Rock Hotel wears its age well and the most necessary updates needed (in the hotel lobby, dining room and each room's bathroom) have been done well. As expected in a hotel built decades ago, the rooms are large and all face the sea, the lower levels having their own balcony off the room. All have ceiling fans and air-conditioning, a must in the spring/summer months in KZN. Their breakfast buffet was varied, with great fresh and cooked options to cater for most dietary requirements. The bar is cosy and well stocked, and the hotel and restaurant staff were friendly and accommodating. All for a very reasonable rate, I will definitely be back to visit the beautiful, clean beach with amazing rock pools and sip cocktails by the lovely pool! Just not perhaps during peak times as it seems the hotel is very family oriented, which is not great for a romantic getaway...

This is comparable to beach resort hotels in other parts of the world. Rooms are spacious but do need updating. The service is fine and balconies overlooking the beach add to the experience. The restaurant is adequate for most things and rather good if you are looking for curry. Local shopping options are close by, free parking is available and the staff is very pleasant. Considering you are actually on the beach prices are fairly modest. WiFi is free but coverage is poor at best.

The Salt Rock Hotel, on the North Coast (about 30 minutes north of Durban), has been a popular destination for many years. I have stayed there a number of times over the past 35 years. Recently I spent a weekend there...and I was not disappointed. I noted an attractive refurbishment of the interior. The food/the meals?? Excellent in quality, variety and abundance! Affordable! Very suitable for families. There are indoor and outdoor dining venues. Enjoy lunch outdoors on the terrace whilst dolphin and whale watching. The hotel is conveniently located on the beach. The hotel offers a playground for children, plus a swimming pool area and a spa. Everything in one location for an enjoyable and affordable family holiday. You will not be disappointed.

Horrible wifi. Rooms are very basic and need to be updated. Restaurants were fine, but not that impressive.

The exterior can also use some major upkeep. I was face timing my husband; I was facing the beach, so he could see the hotel behind me. He thought I was walking the beach when I called and he commented, "that's a hideous hotel behind you," not realizing it was where I was staying.

The beach and rock pool made the stay worth it, because it created a unique scenery and slightly different experience from other beach hotels.

The best thing about the hotel was that the staff were super nice and tried their best to accommodate guests' needs.

Have always found Salt Rock Hotel to be excellent value for money and comfortable stay. Have been on a number of occasions and will visit again. Only negative would be the internet quality which is rather poor for this day and age, fix that Salt Rock and you will be 5 stars.
