I want to start by saying that I strongly recommend people not to confuse this place with a chic/modern spa or a wellness centre. It isn't a hip, cool place where a lot of young people go that has the relaxing spa music, the multicoloured LED lights, or the scent of eucalyptus like most spas these days have. We arrived at the property on a Monday morning and thought the outdoor area looked nice and reasonably well-kept. We walked around the front of the property looking for the door to the reception area but had no idea what way we had to go - left, right, up, down.. there was absolutely zero signage telling us the direction of the reception. Finally, we walked around to the back of the building and walked in the door to a very unpleasant and pungent smell of sulphur and a loud suction noise coming from the room beside the reception. The first thing I really noticed was the lack of youth in the clients and the building itself. As we were shown to the changing rooms I started trying to think of an exit strategy. Women wearing butcher's aprons and rubber rain boots were tracking mud through the hallways and the unbelievably high temperature of the corridor made me anxious. I got into my bathing suit and met my husband outside in the hallway that had extremely low ceilings and muddy floors. I started panicking because I thought I was going to a relaxing spa and not heaven's waiting room for elderly people with health problems. My husband and I are in our late 20's and this is not what we were expecting and not what was advertised. We went into the jacuzzi area and decided to hang out there for awhile. I looked around at the old, dated, and unsanitary conditions of the structure and immediately regretted the decision booking this place. They have these tacky, dusty, gross fake plants and inside the pools there were pieces of paper floating in the luke-warm water... one of the pools that had the thermal water in it even had a cob web hanging above it and duct tape on the railing. The minor details have been completely ignored for years and they've made no effort trying to make this a nice place. I wanna say that the staff was fantastic and helpful, and the women who apply the mud therapy are very funny and nice so the staff has nothing to do with the problems. This place is not relaxing at all unless you go outside away from the chaos of the inside building. The only good part of this experience was the turkish bath and sauna because there was nobody in them and we had them all to ourselves. Last year when we went to Tuscany we stayed at a spa from 10:30am until 19:00... but at the terme francescane village we stayed a total of 2 hours and wanted to get the hell out of there. We ate our lunch that we paid for and it was good enough, but I was so disappointed I started crying in the middle of the meal because I needed a relaxing day and I didn't get it... complete disappointment and the photos are deceiving. I have also seen that the owner likes to attack all the people who leave negative reviews on trip advisor instead of being gracious and trying to accommodate them or make it up to them.
This is a medical centre for old people or people who have disabilities - it is not a trendy place at all. Maybe in the end it is our fault for thinking it was a spa but in the very least they could up their hygiene standards and put some money back into the building. If they continue like this, with the nose-diving economy, they may end up having to close their doors. They're lucky they get a portion of government subsidization or else they'd surely be closed by now. If I could sum up the experience with one word it would be 'gross'.
