Jay, I and two friends have just returned from another tour of German Weihnachtsmarkts, (Christmas markets), this time around Mainz and Heidelberg in the Rhine valley. We stayed at the superb Gästehaus (Guest house) part of the Dohlmuhle Winery. It is owned by the Stutz family with 6 very well appointed rooms furnished in typical German style with under-heated parquet floors, the usual large bed, a settee and chair and a walk in shower. On the ground floor is the reception, dining room, a modern spa area with saunas, steam bath and more. There is also a lounge/wine tasting area for guests to relax. Here you may relax and try the wines and in the traditional German way, you fill in your own tab as you go along which is great because you do not have to wait for one of the staff if you wish to try any of the drinks. There's an additional cellar restaurant down the stairs in the main restaurant which was fully booked for parties. We stayed here for 4 nights Jay and I ate in the restaurant on 3 of them. Vegetarian food is not one of Germanys great strengths, but here the excellence of chef Rolf (who trained at the London Savoy) cannot be overstated. On 2 occasions even though they were fully booked Rolf cooked two dishes not on the main menu for Jay. I had a green salad on the first night, pork and then a steak on the last, all our meals were superb. All dishes on the menu have different wines recommended, however you may choose what you like or even try Weissbeer or Pils. There's also free WiFi for all guests. A special mention should go the following: Karen, the very friendly owner who was there every morning serving us breakfast, Rolf the top class chef who recommended places to visit, Marcus the head waiter who was so polite and helpful, Laura the young waitress with her excellent service and constant smile and all the staff on Saturday night. If you want somewhere quiet with top class accommodation, food and service then look no further than Dohlmühle Restaurant and Gästehaus. If you are travelling along A61 south from Koblenz and are looking for somewhere to eat it's only 5 minutes from the motorway, you will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: All rooms are good but room 1 had the largest area and both had a chaise longue which would provide an extra bed for a child to sleep on.

We were returning home from our European holiday and stopping off in Germany and by chance came across this hotel / restaurant on an internet search. Lucky us! The room was a bargain at €96 including breakfast. The bedroom was huge with lovely high ceilings, great power shower and clean comfy bed. Dinner was the best we have eaten on our 2 week holiday, worth the money. As this is part of a winery the wine list is extensive and we would have loved to have stayed longer to work our way through it. Find this place and you will come away happy!

I stayed here with my daughter. The room had character, an attic roof with lots of wood which was stylish, clean and comfortable. We slept really well especially as the double bed had two separate duvets. There was a luxurious walk-in shower and the bathroom was a great size and done to a high specification. Breakfast was buffet style and good range to choose from. Staff were helpful. I would definitely stay there again. Flonheim is a nice village, this is a wine region and I would recommend a vineyard tour to see how beautiful the countryside around here is.

Dohlmuehle is a small, quiet gasthaus with large, comfortable rooms in an interesting, peaceful village. I selected it because of its easy proximity to Frankfurt airport, but it was a worthwhile destination in itself. Staff were welcoming and helpful, including providing me with a delicious lunch on my arrival - though the restaurant was closed. The very relaxing sauna area was a big plus. It is possible to purchase excellent local wine in the wine lounge at a very reasonable price. Don't miss dinner in the restaurant! The food was delicious and the price for the three-course meal a bargain.

There are pleasant strolls in the vicinity through the vineyards and to the ancient trullo buildings.

Room Tip: All the rooms seemed similar.

I think the answer here to try and not arrive on a Tuesday as the Restaurants are closed and there is minimal staff so its a case! of helping yourself. Apart from that it is an excellent hotel and if obviously one for the wine buffs as there is a large quantity to select from at a very competitive price. The rooms are large, well furnished and comfortable. The parking and Wi-Fi is FREE. It is ideally situated near the A61 motorway.
