Hotel Tocarema located on a hill overlooking the city of Girardot is a very pleasant hotel to stay. The rooms are large, with excellent A/C, something necessary in this steaming hot city.

Attention in every area of the hotel is very friendly and professional.

The breakfast included in the rate is very nice, including fruit juice, eggs, bread and coffee.

The hotel has a very nice swimming pool, that I could not use given my schedule. Rooms have free wifi connection. Just ask the desk for the password.

Current rate is col$214.000 per night, around US$71 plus taxes.

Stayed: September 2015, travelled solo

I read all the reviews before I booked, for both tripadvisor and booking.com. To all the positive comments I totally concur - the service was great, the hotel and pool areas were supernice, clean, and the nicest surprise of all is the food was quite good - not bad at all which I normally expect in these places. There are two restaurants if I´m not mistaken (the one near the pool and a pizza place at the end of a ¨ecological walk¨. The pizza restaurant is newer and has a very nice ambiance, with big fans to blow away any bugs that might want to fly past you. The hotel is not modern but totally suitable to the area and more a classic, but it is not at all rundown. I just loved it really. We came with two toddlers and they have shallow areas in the main pool area so they can be part of the general pool area without having to be away in a toddler pool area (where there is one also).

The best part of the whole Girardot area is that it´s a dry heat (not at all humid) so even at 38C all weekend, it was perfect and warm (not oppressive heat like Cartagena). No idea if there is anything do in the city itself, but it must be developing a bit as there a new Carulla supermarket there and other resorts in construction.

Bravo to the hotel - I think you´ll be pleasantly surprised.

Room Tip: Any room is fine, but of course the higher rooms with the view of the pool are better; the hotel food is good!

My husband and I spent the weekend here along with our daughter, son in law and 20 month old granddaughter. The pools a lovely, well maintained and huge. Lots of places to sit and many spots in the shade. The rooms we had on 4th floor were fine with good tv and balcony. Great a/c which is appreciated in that climate. Yummy food.

The pool and recreation facilities are nice and the food is amazing. The staff members are kind and service oriented. Hotel is very old and was probably the crown jewel about 20 years ago but the rooms are now outdated with old cheap rattan furniture and a hard uncomfortable bed and bedding in our suite. The suite we were in had white tiles in the room that attracted dirt into the rooms from the pool area and the ecological walk area. The rooms also lacked color and warmth. The internet was totally unreliable and every time you got off your computer you had to log back on. On the second night we were there, a heavy rain storm occurred for about 4 hours and the power in our room and I believe in the entire hotel shut down for over 2 hours in the middle of the night. Luckily the rain cooled things down and we didn't immediately become hot in the room without the A/C blowing. Outside our room in the hallway the staff had to clean up standing water the next morning from a leak that came from somewhere. I was trying to figure out where it came from since our room was on the second floor. The outdoor facilities such as the pool are excellent and is very kid friendly and they had some of the staff assist with a program for the kids to do in the pool area. The food and drinks are excellent in the hotel and I have to say it beats the quality of most of the bigger Bogota hotel chain restaurants I've eaten at. Prices for the drinks and food are very reasonable. One thing that bothered me about my stay was that I had to pay for the entire room bill up-front at check-in and then pay for all the meals, drinks and incidentals at check-out. I can understand a deposit but not the entire amount for services upfront that I had not yet received. I didn't want to sugar coat the review like most did only saying how great the pool and food are which it is but this hotel is old and needs a serious face lift like almost every hotel in Girardot, Colombia.

Room Tip: Inside room on the corner facing the pool have best views of the mountains and pool and swimming bar . Think of a hotel you would see on a Caribbean Island back in the late 50's and 60's and that is the Tocarema Hotel. It has a distinct character about it, but just remember it is a weekend get away hotel full of families and couples from Bogota.

Atentamente,
Jaime Armando Pabon Perez.

Everyone in the staff is very service oriented, genuinely customer driven from front desk to restaurant waiters. Room was always ice cold and a/c was quiet central unit which did not shutdown when we stepped outside the room, a real treat in the hot tropical weather, so when we came back from the pool at the end of the day could immediately relax in the room. Resort style pool with sunken bar.

Room Tip: Second floor room overlooking the pool was nice option, shaded from direct sun coming into room.
