We have some feedback for the owner Belinda.
It was very nice to arrive early on the Saturday evening (5pm) to a bottle of wine and a lovely card stating that you’d be over in a while ‘once we’d settled in’. That, to me, would normally mean 30-45 mins, however, you came over at midday the next day (19 hours after arrival). Frustratingly we waited to cook dinner and get changed until you’d come over as it’s hard to relax if you’re going to get a visit at any moment. I’d called you 4 days prior to our arrival with an eta and you were aware we were coming down from Scotland. What was apparent from your Sunday midday visit was that it had never crossed your mind we’d might have been waiting for you!
When you finally came over the first thing you asked me was how many dogs we had? When I stated we had 3 dogs you looked surprised and I asked if that was ok. You shrugged! We found this annoying and rude as we’d stated we had 3 dogs when we sent the booking enquiry and we were charged an extra £75 for this privilege.
We pointed out to you that 2 of the 4 rings of the gas hob were not working. You said you’d get ‘Johnnie to look at it’ but you didn’t speak to us again during our entire stay.
If you’re a holiday property owner and you’re going away on holiday in the middle of a guest’s week long stay it is polite and courteous to come over and tell them. Maybe state ‘sorry I won’t be around on check-out but please leave the key on the side/in the door’. To leave without a single word is just plain rude.
The place needs a serious deep clean. Everywhere is covered in cobwebs. Your cleaner does the basics well but you’ve made no provision for doing the blinds, lamps and ceilings that have months if not years of dust and cobwebs on them (lie on th bed and look up at the ceiling!).
You need to update your cutlery & crockery. Many plates and bowls were chipped and 4 knives and forks is not enough.
Put a roller-blind over the front door. Your guests should be able to sit in privacy without being looked over by a dozen windows of your own home. Also whenever your PIR light goes on it shines through the front door and straight into your eyes while you’re sat on the sofa.
What isn't apparent from the photos is that there is your huge mansion towering over the cottage. This is misleading and should be made clear on the website.
Let me offer some further bits of advice:
Invest in shutters instead of blinds. They’re easier to clean; they offer the guest better privacy by allowing light in without fully opening them; they will save you a fortune on heating.
Switch from 50W bulbs to LEDs (you have 44 x 50W bulbs in the property). The old bulbs go pop because they get too hot. Switching will save you £400+ a year.
If you're going to have an Inventory for guests to look at and adhere to then keep it updated (yours is date 2012).
We have been in the holiday let business for over 10 years so our assessment is based on experience. Yes it is blunt and to the point but we left the property questioning why on earth you rent the place out as, at present, you simply don’t care enough about it. The fact you have a cleaner to come in when you live next door frankly says it all. Yes it’s a great place in a wonderful location but you have to put the effort in.
Booked 3 nights but stayed 5. Could not believe the stunning surrounding and total peace and quiet. Owners live nearby but did not intrude at all. Lovely welcoming touch of chocolate brownies (best I have tasted) and chilled wine in fridge. This property has it all. Dogs are welcome and mine loved it. The guinea fowl kept them busy from a distance. I will definitely return. Great area too for the beautiful Cotswolds. I have stayed in many holiday cottages but this was as good as it gets. I have mobility problems but the light and spacious barn was ideal. Very comfortable bed, beautifully decorated and equipped with everything you could need.
We wanted a quiet get away from it all break, not too far from the Cotswolds villages that everybody has heard of. The Owners were more than helpful, made us feel very welcome. The barn was immaculate. There is countryside walks on your doorstep, woodpeckers, deer, a small lake. Well done to Belinda & Johnny, a beautiful place.
A brilliant cottage in a brilliant location. Very difficult to find anything wrong. So peaceful and quiet.
Our hosts were friendly but not intrusive but were on hand if we required anything.
Even the woods the property is set in is worth taking a walk around for the setting and wildlife.
A nice touch was the welcoming cake and wine!
Definitely plan to make another visit.
Perfect cottage inside and outside. Ideal for two persons and a dog. Location in the cotswolds is excellent, close to Oxford and many of the classice Cotswolds villages. Friendly owners.
