Hotel Riu Guanacaste

I was a guest at Riu Guanacaste in April. The hotel is great, very friendly honest workers who do everything they can to make your stay pleaser. I've traveled all over the world, & I must say the Costa Rican people are by far a very warm, nice people. Carlos, the GM makes sure everyone is happy. Edwardo the beverage/ rest. Manager goes far. beyond & works very hard. My room was 3029, best. Woke up every AM listening to the howler monkeys, & birds. The food at. ALL the restaurants was superb. I ate at all of them. I took an excursion to Pualo Verde. I used Mario, on the beach. I had a private driver, Carlos, who was excellent. He works for Issystours. I recommend them. You must wear flip or water shoes on the beach or at the pool area if your walking on the cement, or you'll burn your feet. It was very hot at the end of April , but not humid. On the downside, no small bottles of shampoo, conditioner or lotion. Riu could use new washcloths & towels. They're old & rough. Could use better white wine choices. Also, if you're looking to buy a few souvenirs like T shirts, costume jewelry, buy it on the beach from vendors. I took a trip over to Coco Beach, everything they had there was the same thing from the beach, but more expensive. I would surly return to this hotel again. Very safe.

Stayed at the Riu Hotel for a week, the place is amazing. The staff was extremely professional, friendly and on top of every need of the patrons. The rooms, grounds, pool, beach were spotless at all times. Entertainment at the pool and in the evening were fun. Drinks, coffee and water were provided by crystal ball or ESP, not really sure.

Room Tip: I had the jungle view and loved it as the monkeys would appear some mornings and some evenings.

We spent a week at the Riu Guanacaste at the end of April and loved it. The resort is spotless, the staff is constantly cleaning, mopping and polishing. The grounds are impeccable and the gardeners are always pruning, watering and making sure the lush surroundings are immaculate. They are the unsung heroes. No issues with the room. Mini bar was regularly restocked and the oceanview was stunning. We were on the third floor facing straight out to the courtyard and the ocean beyond. The food was very good for an all inclusive. The Liberia buffet was well stocked, managed and had a wide variety of options. The lunch buffet in the Ocotal restaurant was also satisfying. We did eat at the Italian, Asian and the gourmet restaurant the Toucan. Only the Toucan required a reservation and oddly enough, was our worst meal there. Unless things change, don't worry if you don't make it to the gourmet, we headed for the buffet after our sitting there. The pool is beautiful and easy to find a spot. The beach is nice, but if you are expecting Caribbean white sand with aqua marine water, you will be disappointed. This is the Pacific Ocean and besides, there is so much more to experience in Costa Rica than laying on a beach. The resort is far from excursions, be prepared for that. But do one or two if you are there. We did the Monteverde Cloud Forest tour from Nexus in the hotel. The time at the cloud forest was amazing, but is a 4 hour trip each way, a good portion of which is on very bumpy roads. I would recommend that this be an overnight tour to truly have time to enjoy the beauty of what you are seeing. We also did the mega combo tour which included hot springs, hike to a waterfall and zip lining with a provided lunch. We organized a private tour with Jose on the beach (he's in a pink shirt). I can't recommend him strongly enough. This tour made our trip. Our tour guide, Crazy Alex was wonderful and treated us like royalty. This was so much better than being loaded on a tour bus with a bunch of strangers. Do not hesitate to use Jose for your private tours. We also had massages on the beach using Ivania and her husband Alex. The sweetest people who truly appreciate your business and are so much more affordable than using the resort spa. Highly recommend them. The Riu Guanacaste is a beautiful property and Costa Rica a stunning country. If you can't enjoy yourself here, you need to look at yourself as to why that is. Thank you to all the staff and people we met at this resort to make it a truly remarkable vacation. Pura Vida indeed.

We just spent 5 days at this resort and I would have to say it was amazing. All the bad reviews had us worried but after going there we really didn't have one bad this to say about the place. The beach is black which is crazy and it sparkles in the sun. If you walk all the way to the end of the beach until you hit rocks, walk on the rocks around the cliffs and you will find a amazing hidden beach with blue water. If you are looking to go here around April just know this is the dry part of the country so everything will be dead but it's still beautiful.

In my recent vacation I stayed at two different resorts. The Riu Guanacaste was by far the best. Freindly people, warm atmosphere, and top notch service. The entire resort is spotless. Anything you ask for they go out of their way to accommondate your request. The beach has black sand, and the view with the mountains is beautiful. The customer service is excellent. Going to Costa Rica, make this your choice.

Room Tip: I stayed on the 4th floor which made the view awesome. The elevators are right there so no worries.
