Coming here for many years and enjoyed beautiful, imaginative vegetarian meals.
Not the case last night on my birthday. I was convinced leek and potato soup contained chicken. When I discussed this with intelligent and personable waitress, she went into the kitchen only to be sent back out to me, by the chef, presumably, bearing a tub of mass produced vegetable stock paste which I assume was meant to show that the soup was vegetarian. It was embarrassing and I'm not sure why the chef of this Michelin restaurant chose to tell the world that his 'veggie' stock was not homemade.
My main course consisted of a massive bowl of under cooked riggatoni pasta adorned with chunks of roasted veg. That was it. No sauce, nothing. What a shame that after enjoying the gorgeous views and outstanding service from the much missed Fiachra and the long gone veggie respecting chefs, that The Balmoral is now a no go area for those who choose not to eat meat or fish products.

We stayed here for one night between Christmas and New Year to attend a wedding at a nearby venue.

The hotel offers very little in terms of car parking but there is adequate on street parking in and around the local area. Check in is a little odd - you have to track down a member of staff at the bar downstairs. This also made it difficult when checking out as we couldn't find anyone to give our key to and ended up waiting around for 20 minutes until somebody emerged! Staff were pleasant even if they seemed a little unsure when checking guests in/out.

The rooms are clean, comfortable and well finished. Good sized bathroom with a decent shower.

The breakfast was just lovely with views over the water - the lady who looked after us made sure we were well topped up with coffee after a late night! Would recommend for a short stay in Warrenpoint.

Stayed: December 2016

We booked into the balmoral as we had a wedding to attend in a nearby hotel. We got a very reasonable rate for bed and breakfast. Staff were helpful in allowing us to check in early to get ready in our room. Check in is odd as you have to go to the bar, and getting back in late at night is awkward if you don't know that you need to go to the side door.
The room was spacious cosy and comfortable with a well sized bathroom and a side view of the sea, but thin walls made for lots of noise in the wee hours. Room had a safe, tea and coffee and complimentary water.
Breakfast was lovely and with gorgeous views over the lough. The restaurant is stylish while the bar is pretty and quirky. There was no one around for a bunch of people to check out so we had to just leave the key on the bar and hope for the best

I have stayed here in the past, but not for three years though it doesn't seem to have changed much in between. Was kept waiting in the bar a while to check in as there is no dedicated reception. The room was nice, I didn't have long to grab breakfast but the staff were flexible accordingly which was appreciated.
