Boca Olas Resort and Blu Restaurant (and other El Tunco places) have the same ownership as Roca Sunzal Resort and the Resort’s airport transfer driver talked these up on the way from SAL. The room’s brochure had a map (photo) in that showed the maybe 75% sealed walking path connecting the three places. Along the path there were good views of El Tunco rock (a pig or its carcass on its backside), popular surf breaks, and other touristy spots. Housekeeping, security and receptions staff did great work and the Resort restaurant looked to be one of the best in El Tunco. Resort wasn’t cheap (~$100 per night for 2 persons with breakfast) but it was a high quality, secure operation. Although crowded on weekends, the pool for guests - overflown regularly by flights of pelicans - was well maintained. Pool water was mostly circulating and was topped up at least once by tank truck. Some pool rules didn’t seem to need translating (sign photo). Secured parking area was full Sunday morning and fully empty Monday morning. Walking on brown beach sand (after traversing rock piles) at higher tides meant crossing lots more rocks, and 3 ocean-front places laid out sand & umbrella stands for patrons. Arrival was just before El Salvador closed up to foreigners due to the virus (poster photo). After the airport closure cleaners and maintenance staff wore masks, restaurant had only takeaway for non-guests, room rate discount was offered for extended stays, and only locals seemed around.

We didn’t stayed at the hotel, we just ate. The waiting time for they to serve the food is quite long, but trust me, it’s worth it!

We had:

- Pescadetas; fried little fish, so crunchy, tastes like you are eating chips
5/5

- Batellada; is a sampler platter that had, Pescadetas, Fried Fish, Fried Calamari, Shrimps and Crabs, and a side of Potato Wedges
5/5

- Langostazo; full lobster, stuffed with shrimp and calamari, with a garlic creamy sauce
5/5 (this one would get an extra star)

What’s there not to absolutely love about this hotel? When you pull up to the hotel parking you question whether you made the right choice, BUT once you step foot on the property you feel something special right away.

Reception - You are greeted with a warm welcome and a smile. Dinora was beyond amazing from start to finish. We had been in contact in regards to my booking while I was here in the states. Then I met Carlos the following day and Carlos was amazing as well. The level of care and attention they provided us was the absolute best. I felt like family.

Now the rooms - we reserved two ocean front rooms. One double queen and one triple. The rooms were very nice and very clean. The views were just . I can’t get over it.

The food - we had breakfast there the two days we stayed. We ordered el típico. Though small, it was plentiful and delicious! Who wants to start off the day by overeating anyways? It was enough to get us going and ready for the day. We had lunch as well and the ceviche was GREAT!

The staff - the entire staff on the property were very nice and attentive. I have to give kudos to two who stood out...Joel and Alex. Just WOW! Their level of service and attention was out of this world. There was not a single moment where we felt we were missing anything. They made sure we were taken care of. Just as an example, I asked where the liquor store was and Joel walked us there. Got back to the hotel with my bottle and Joel asked if we needed ice, cups, lime and if we needed any mixers. We said sure...within 15 minutes everything was brought up to us. That’s just the start. I can go on and on about how Joel and Alex took care of us.

The same goes for Carlos at the front. He would call to check if we needed anything in the room. The service was just out of this world. Lastly, security. I didn’t get their names but they were amazing as well. Always greeted us and took great care of us even we my cousin and I would get back to the property late night and drunk ‍♂️.

Location - oceanfront and in the heart of it all. The Rock that the beach is known for is right in front of the hotel. Amazing views. For those looking to go out for an evening of music, drinks and dancing...you can walk to the many bars/clubs nearby. Super safe place with a lot of people from all over the world. We met people from the states, Brazil, Australia and many other countries.

I HIGHLY recommend this hotel. Definitely get a Ocean view room if available. I can’t wait to go back later this month.
