Like most of the reviews the quality of service and ambiance far out way this remote location. Actually after visiting the city we were very happy to be surrounded by such lush surroundings and quite simplicity. Peter and Pia have established a wonderful communal atmosphere that allows strangers to become friends, even if it is only for the few days you stay there and not many B&Bs, hotels, or resorts can say the same. We enjoyed the ruckus after dinner conversations and Pia's cooking is amazing...still kicking myself for not taking a lesson. Peter is charming and helpful, willing to take you to town at a moments notice, which is probably why we felt we didn't see him enough...too busy playing chauffeur. Thank you Secret Garden for a wonderful addition and memory to our trip to Thailand.

WE stayed for 5 nights and stayed in the main complex in 'Mandalay'. The bungalow was beautiful and frankly too big for just the 2 of us. Peter and his wife try and run a tight consumer friendly ship which shows in the level of service. Breakfasts are good and I thought the dinner was even better value. The honesty bar was reasonably priced.

The location for some may be too far out of the town to be convenient and beware of what Peter's staff may charge to takeyou into town we got ripped off on the first day before we realised the true price.

Only other small downside noisy dogs most nights.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to write a review , we really appreciate it .
But I have to clarify two points
1) The guide the guest used was NOT our staff , we don't even have a driver
2) The guest joined another guest who had already booked a day trip . Both went to and were picked up at different locations and the guide charged both half the price per day . Public transport is always cheaper . We are sorry for the misunderstanding and will try to explain everything even more detailed in the future .

My husband and l stayed here in August, it met my expectations in everyway. The eating area is a real gathering place for guests to swap stories and just get to know each other. Peter and Pai were wonderful hosts, and the food was great. It was great to relax in the pool in area in the heat of the day. The secret garden is approx 12 klm from chiang mai, to us that was not problem. The cottages were spacious, brighly decorated, and very cozy The gardens are beautiful as are the lilly ponds. I researched this place before we left reading lots of the reviews from t/a,and its all true, great place for families, if l could of stayed longer l would.Stay you wont be sorry

The Secret Garden was the most idyllic hideaway. The gorgeous cottages surrounded by lily pools , lazy dogs and shedding fruit trees made you feel like you were in a sylvan paradise… till you tasted Pai’s food… and then you knew for sure !!

This little boutique hotel is a fair distance from the bustling town centre, but that, to us , only added to its charm. And Peter and Pai spent their days endlessly shunting their guests to the main junction where they could hop into the local transport… at any time of the day!

My son and I had a wonderful stay there and are planning to go back to visit with the rest of the family the next time we are in Chang Mai.

All the other reviews pretty much say it all.....fantastic hospitality, best Thai food ever, lovely grounds and pool, comfortable bungalows. Peter and Pai really now how to host their guests, we felt like royalty. Highly recommended!
