Splendid view virgin local cafe above the Apollonia museum. Must try. Hard to find. Go up the hill from the museum and follow a little sign Restaurant. The freshest frogs and tasty local chicken served with fresh rosemary which our young waiter cut just behind our table. Extraordinary authentic peaceful place in the shadow of 500 yo olive trees.

Apollonia is so romantic. A place to fall in love. Every time i visit Albania, i feel like it is a MUST place to see. So many stories hidden in this small city. Once made a beautiful romantic picnic there, it was so quite so beautiful. It is up in a hill and if you focus, you can even smell the sea wind. Apollonia was actually a sea city but if you read the story before you go there, you will be so fascinated from the small details that you can still find. In the museum you can see a small part of the story and also some things and statues you haven't seen before. For me it is a magical City, a wisdom city. I say city because i can't except to call them Ruins, the stones there still tell you lots of stories.
Sometimes we even visit the restaurant there. Traditional food, and very polite people.
But still prefer the picnic.
If you want to surprise your partner , invite them for a picnic there.

Ancient city of Apollonia is definitely worth a visit. Besides the antic sites, you will enjoy landscape views and old monastery and Orthodox Church. The site officially closes at 8, but the staff actually leaves it open so you can wonder around during the sunset with no people :) We really enjoyed

You can plunge into the world of ancient Greece, touch the stones that Aristotle heard. Good museum and view from the highest point (near the restaurant).
It is convenient to climb the path that is to the left of the amphitheater, if you are standing in front of it.

If you're a fan of ancient Rome then the place to visit while in Albania is Apollonia, just outside of Fier. Perched atop a large hill with spectacular views all around, the excavated ruins only hint at what once was an incredible place. There are informative plaques at most of the sites though a good map is necessary to find your way around (take a photo of the large posted map when you arrive). The highlight was definitely the grand memorial area where the small theatre is located.

There is no charge to visit the site and there are two restaurants where you can get a drink or a bit to eat. However, getting here is a little unpleasant. While only a few kilometres from Fier, the roads are truly dreadful and you have to drive slowly and with extreme care to ensure you don;t damage your vehicle.
