Make this your guesthouse in Abisko

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 13 Dec 2015
Its great a find for me, when i was googling where to stay in Abisko during the planning stage of my NorthernLights trip. Abisko Guesthouse offers basic rooms with closet and hangers, bedroom slippers, towels and linen. The owner was a very nice guy and very accomodating. There are also activities and tours organized for guests to join. The common kitchen is clean and complete with utensils and equipments. The toilet and bath are also clean. In the common dining area, some books and boardgames are provided while waiting for the aurora. There is a nice view of the lake Tornetrask. There is also free cookies in the lounge area. so yummy! I definitely will come back again soon!

Reviewed 11 December 2015

I stayed in ABISKO GUESTHOUSE in November 2015, few weeks ago and I regret to write a bard review about my experience. It started bad from the very beginning.
When I made the room reservation I contacted them to have information about the tours they organize. It has to be said that they have very good ones!! But the communication was absolutely not fluent. It needed to have the timings in order to plan my trip and it was almost impossible.Taking into account I wanted to rent a car or buy train tickets, I needed this information.
One day before the arrival date I sent them an email to know the timings (once again) and they told me that when I arrive the people at the front desk will inform me (I needed in advance...).
When I arrived there, they don't explained me anything until I ask them even where was located the room..They told me the tour started at 19:00, I was there at time, and finally it was at 20:00 (and they knew it!!!!) but nobody came to say nothing. It's not pleasent to lose time and to wait outside the reception office (because it was closed) for 1 hour...maybe 3 degrees...
The recepcion is not in the same building as the rooms. And the rooms are located in 2 different areas. I discovered that point after doing the check in ...but nobody told us how to arrive to our room, if it was located in one area or in the other area. (it was cold, baggage from place to place...)
The room was clean, big enough and confortable. The worse point was that it was room number 1, just in the main entrance, the door of the room is just in the place where the people leave their shoes ...so obviously where there was more noise and disturb.
And to make things more "exciting" they started to do some maintenance works while we were inside the room and they open/close the door several times. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!
I can accept they don't give good explanations, they can forget to tell the guest where their room is, I can understand that someone has to have Room Numbe 1 ....but I can not accept that anybody go into the room while I'm trying to have some rest.
They were changing the cards to access to the room and to the building...The boys that were doing their works were friendly but this can not happen at all.
I understand they have to do this kind of improvements, but never, NEVER, when a guest is inside the room, never when you have rooms that are not booked. Never!

At least, the room was clean, the toilets and showers as well.
The building has a kitchen and a living room area that was vey comfortable

I was here with 5 friends on the first week of December. We were extremely satisfied. The rooms in themselves are not very big and the bathroom is often shared, but if you travel in a group you can get an entire apartment assigned to you. When we were there there was no breakfast service, but there's always a shared kitchen available and the guesthouse is right in front of a quote big supermarket (big for the area). The staff is what makes this place great to stay though. They were all super friendly and available, in particular the owner, Mr Ekdal, who helped us choose and book all the best activities like sleddog or motorbike trips. Right below the guesthouse there's a nice spot by the lake to see the aurora. I really hope I will come again to visit wonderful Abisko!
